Has anyone tried using the 2.5 in front and rear? I ordered 2 the other day then saw on the tire thread reccomened is a 3 in the rear and 2.5 front. Curious how much of a difference that would make and what the impact would be for a large rear tire so I know if I should go with a 3 in the rear.

Check out Quasimodo on YouTube, he put larger tires on

I just this past weekend put on 3” front and rear Shinkos I’ve noticed a drop in top end speed I’m having a hard time reaching 51 mph now but it looks good.

Quasimotard.

I've been wary of recommending the Shinko 244 2.5x17's for this bike but it's probably ok. The tire load rating is 38L which is 50 mph.
I've been sitting on a set of Shinko 244 3.0...some people make it look easy to change tires...from the videos I've seen this is not an easy task without a wheel jig...in anycase, I think the 3.0 may be too big for the front..

The tires megathread has some statements and feedback regarding the 3.0 on the front and possible mitigation (see my signature for a link). Rubs fender bolts at speed, slightly difficult to install.

I know what you mean about the tire possibly being difficult to fit without a jig. I think that it comes to personal experience, some nuanced knowledge, physical strength, etc.

I haven't tried it myself yet because my tires are still good, but I am dedicating myself to doing my own tires because I don't have a good way to get wheels to the shop off the bike and I am way, way, WAY too cheap to get them to do it wheels on. There's daylight robbery, and then there's what the dealership would ask me to do.

I guess it depends on your definition of too big… I have them on front and back without issues I care to address. My rule of thumb on changing moto tires is off I start clenching my teeth, sweating or cussing I walk away. If done correctly it goes fairly easily, and I am usually mounting mousses. You tube university is a great source.
This is just plain impressive

I think I'll stick with 2.5 for the front...like to keep my fender in OEM position...

as a side note there was a footnote:

Note: Tires with 2.00, 2.25 & 2.50 nominal section widths are rated for 75 mph.

either way, i think they are fine for the trail.

I've run a Shinko 244 on the front of my TW for the last seven or eight years. Great tire which I look-forward to installing on my Trail when the stock tires are closer to needing replacement. I'm undecided as to which width I'll run the Trail but have time to figure it out.

awesome thanks for all the feedback. Im going to have a tire shop swap and them out and see how the 2.5s do. Then maybe I will end up putting on a 3.0 on the rear

Why have you been wary of recommending them? Because of the load rating? Thats the only thing I wasnt sure about after reading through the tire threads. I dont understand much about the tire ratings, weight distribution, and balancing referred to over there. Super new to motos =]

I'm weird about tire specifications. Anything that separates you from the ground is something that I am willing to pay extra for and that goes doubly so for tires, where catastrophic failure can kill the rider. Because I misread the speed rating before as 50 mph, which this motorcycle can definitely exceed, I didn't want to recommend a tire where we'd exceed the speed rating of the tire leading to untested conditions. But the actual speed rating of the tire is 75 mph, so it's fine.

To follow up, I got the 2.5 Shinko 244s installed. They feel great on pavement I can still top out at about 55-56 just takes a bit longer to get there. Going off roading this week and will update again after, expecting huge increase in performance compared to stock tires on the same trails.
