might not be as through, but we did this in 1 day. tim still has the bike, and not much has changed sine we did this. tuning, clutch, chambers, rearsets, etc. hadnt run in 10? years. I have a few more on my computer at home i did on other builds.

then theres this, bare block to runner and drove home in 12 hrs for my ex wifes 72 maverick. mildly built 302. it was pretty cold that day, high of 31?

I do like it and I have a lot of admiration for a good mechanic, it's one of my regrets that I didn't do more mechanical on my bikes I know it sounds crazy but I just didn't have the time, I worked so much that when I had time to ride I just wanted to get on the bike and go. My best friend was a diesel mechanic and he kept my stuff going, funny story Adam's car was always broken down he always said he never had time to fix his own stuff because friends like me always wanted him to work on their stuff in his spare time. Btw spare time is a word I've only recently become acquainted with it's a funny concept if you think about it.

out of HS i went into the ase program and wanted to be a mechanic, and i was good at it. However, a few yrs in i decided (after looking around the shop i was in), i didn't want to be these old broken men around me in their 40s and 50s. lol. (im 50 now). so went back to school on and off for years and got my engineering degree and worked my way thru a few companies etc, to the cushy job i now have. IMHO, time is the only non renewable resource, and i wanted to enjoy what short time i have on this marble. I love wrenching on stuff, but as a hobby. and i do it a LOT, and i absolutely love it. Never to late to learn, and i have taught a bunch of my friends how to do things.... However, if you don't enjoy it, def not a good hobby. .02

I would love to do more, I bought a 22 rebel 500 this summer with the intention of bobbing the rear fender and lights and turn signals to get more of the old school look but I wound up not getting the heated work space I wanted so it's setting for now, nice little bike for the money btw and would make a heck of a bobber project as the stance is pretty good on the bike. The other draw back is I have huge hands, my ring size is 19 so getting in smaller spaces and little bolts is aggravation sometimes, I know it's al excuses and I do plan on doing 90 percent of the work on the 3 bikes I currently have. Btw I don't think a honest mechanic should pay taxes, you would not believe the horror stories I have with toyota dealerships.

It's not a beer fridge, its just a fridge. I don't drink in the garage, never have, never will while I'm on a project. I have a bar in the house for that, and i prefer whiskey. ;) the fridge is full of food, typically what my wife makes (who shows up near the end). We had shit to do. that's 2 days and about 17 hours total of work, which included wiring, machining a bracket for the coil (there's a mill in the back next to the fridge in the corner), an aftermarket cdi installation, clutch installation, all on a brand new rebuilt motor, ported by the best in the business. it was a lot more than you might think by looking at the video. thats also the very 1st fireup of the motor. there's almost 6k in that bike as it sits, and I've known matt since we were kids, so no, he's not paying me at all, i don't really do that. It was also a teaching project thing.

heres another one. this past Sat and Sunday. 78 RD400 for my buddy Matt in my garage. :p

Thanks I really miss having a mechanic friend, my buddy Adam got into drugs and committed suicide in 2003, I was living in North Wilkesboro, NC at the time, I still miss him and wish I could have helped more. On a lighter note is Carowinds still a thing? I used to take my stepson and daughter there in the late 80s and early 90s. Lot of fun back then

Sorry to hear about that.

yeah, carowinds is still around, about 10-15 mins from the house right up 77. Matt has done a LOT on the build , it started 2 years ago. this part had him out of his element a bit.

Appreciate it, sorry for the morbid overshare, that's the problem with talking to old guys every thing reminds them of their past and they always want to tell you about it, I used to avoid sitting near an old guy at lunch on a jobsite when I was younger for that very reason now I'm that guy🥺
