Is it too early to start planning a rally?

I’m in Northern Kentucky and would be interested. My 125 will go on the back of our ‘64 Airstream so I’ll be fully self contained for camping as well. Keep me posted on his one as I’ve got several Airstream and music events scheduled already but I’m always up for a new adventure.

I live in Northern Virginia. Anything near Harrisburg, Camp Springs is doable. I used to go to a Scooter Rally up in Camp Springs run by the Three Mile Island Scooter club. It was a camping rally for an entire weekend. A lot of fun.

I've been dreaming about a group ride of small bikes on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Slow speed limit and plenty of offshoot trails.
We are planning such a ride within the next month. Look up Small Bore Core on Facebook. Also, DC VA MD Scooter - Moto Riders group.. user "Dick Burns" was looking to do such a thing.

Sorry for the long delay in responding.
I am checking out these groups. Coming from larger cc motorcycles I am new to this and I appreciate the contact information

Not to zombify an old thread, but I wonder if there's still any traction on this idea for 2022? My main bike is a Honda CB1100 and we have annual rallies on the East Coast for our members. Just a bunch of CB1100s bombing twisties and seeing sights and hanging out by a fire at night. Its a great time with like minded individuals.

Anyway. I said all that to say these kinds of things are always awesome when it's a cult bike and good intrepid fun people. We've done our rallies at loads of different locations up and down the East Coast, so im full of suggestions. Let's see....Bland VA, Maggie Valley NC, Williamsport PA, Caldwell OH, Berea KY, Summersville WV, Devils Fork SC, Suches GA, and more! Some of the routes and landmarks I've seen at all these places I'll never forget.

Im from Charleston SC (a terrible place to hold a rally) but if one of these gets organized for 2022 anywhere on the east coast im there with bells on. Might even bring the wife and her super cub! If I can help organize it or offer any insight that makes the job easier im all for that too.

We just need to get it off the ground. Even if it's not huge just getting some folks together would be great.

How did you like the Williamsport location? I've ridden through there and been around that area a bunch. There are portions of the MABDR not too far.

Williamsport was phenominal, and I went into it with exactly zero expectations because before we did that I didn't realize there was a lot of good riding up there. Keep in mind, my group is purely street because a CB1100 does NOT mix well with gravel and fire roads and trails, but we found some badass roads, pretty much everywhere between the Corning museum and the flight 93 memorial. Our rallies are usually an entire week, so we range all over. I even took a solo morning up the Worlds End state park and even that was a good time.

I think the key to these events is not just location but lodgings....The place has got to appeal to all comers, it's got to be affordable, and not a terrible dive that nobody wants to stay in. Campgrounds are cool, but only to people who like camping. Some cities are just awful for lodging prices, while some are like untouched paradises. The next key element is a GUIDE. somebody has to take charge and who knows the area like the back of his hand. a good small bike rally is kind of a tour of the area put on by a person who's proud of his stomping grounds. That also means there's solid and well thought-out routes on the books that everybody can follow. I've been to rallies where it's just everybody kind of grouping up on their own and going in different directions in the morning and it doesn't really work out well. having a couple groups with distinct ride styles in mind is a good plan. a free for all is not.

i realize i'm talking a lot of noise without saying "heck i'll do it" but that's because of the point I made above...Charleston is a shit place for a rally. All our roads are stick straight and boooooooriiing. We DO have a lot of trails and whatnot, and the town itself is a fantastic place to visit and especially a fantastic place to eat, but I Don't know if that makes a rally. Then again, i'm still thinking from the point of view of somebody riding a big 4 cylinder street bike and not the point of view of somebody riding a 125cc trail bike. maybe people with more experience on that kind of bike could tell me i'm wrong about charleston being a shit place for a rally, at which point i would be more than happy to show you every nook and cranny of this town and help plan/scout routes.

Your point about a good guide is a very good one. There is a difference between mapping some roads and following the GPS for a group of 3 or 4, and trying to lead 20+. I've been the ride leader for various crews of up to 6 and when you don't know the route well, you miss turns sometimes! If we were doing a light off-road ride that's another factor to make sure it's got no gotchas that would cause a problem.

No kidding! The last thing we need is a pile up of 5 or 6 trail 125s in remote forest. Basically the main function of a guide is to spend time preparing. Riding the routes. Taking pictures. Studying the ride times and distances. Tweaking the schedule. It takes somebody who's both local and dedicated to finding the best routes.

Look up the small bore rides at deals gap. they also do trail riding up there. some of the adv groups have been up there when we were at the 2-stroke meets. just an option.

Nice to see another CB1100 guy (thought your username looked familiar)

We have a small bore Rally in the smoky mountains area of Townsend close to pigeon Forge every year apparently. I knew nothing about it until this year. There are a lot of trails there, not so much a 125 only, but still a good meet up.
