What size screws are used to mount a box on the back rack?

I do not want to strip out the threads they look to be 1/4- 20 but they do not thread in easily and I do not want to force. I want to make sure I have the correct screw size if anyone knows that would be great thanks!

I'm not sure but when i bought a center column rack it came with longer replacement screws. The factory allen wrench head ones they replaced fit perfect on the rear rack. I do know Its definitely going to be metric and not 1/4. If no-one else knows, take out the allen screw in the middle of the center column and take it to hardware store to check the size. Its going to be tough going in at fist since the rear rack thread holes are painted.

The thread on the rack are actually an oddball M5.5-0.90 thread. Neither M5 nor M6 will fit well. The best approximation is a standard 12-24 screw, which approximates to a M5.49-0.94

I'm hoping this is a joke but.... no they aren't. they are m6. I can 100% guarantee this. clean the paint out first. ;) (ie run a tap thru to clean it out). Honda would never, ever, use some weird oddball size like that.

Hi 'm in sc',
Agreed. It makes A LOT more sense that they are M6. With all the paint I could only get in a thread and a half. That being said, I'll keep the paint passivation in place and use the 12-24s till they get sloppy, because they fit reasonably well now. After re-tapping to M6, I'll have to keep the BHSCSs in place with grease to prevent rust should I take off my milk crate.

I just got my black 19"x13" milk crate, timely information! Or is it 483 x 330mm crate:p? This forum is great, we all make mistakes and a forum like this helps ya learn from them !

So after a test ride around my farm I definitely don't like the crate just an inch off the rack 'grab handle'. Easy to bump into the back sitting and standing when you hit drop off of something steep. I'm going to try and turn it sideways or slide it off the back of the rack two or three inches.
