I love my 125 and plan to keep it forever. It’s everything and more that I hoped it would be. I even like the stock seat! I am coming up on 1000 miles and am wondering if I should bring it in to the dealer for the 1000 mile service. It’s at least $150. Is it worth it? I’m not super mechanical. I’ve changed the oil twice and installed a magnetic drain plug. My only other mod are the mirror extensions. Please let me know your thoughts.

It really depends on your mechanical ability but I won’t be taking mine in at the mile service and I am pretty average. Most of the items are very simple using basic tools

Here is a good video on how to adjust the chain yourself. Probably the only thing that could possibly need maintenance at 1000mi besides clutch adjustment. But if you aren't experiencing shifting issues then your clutch is likely fine.

IMO... there are certain things that are really worth learning how to do on your bike. Most of them revolve around having a better experience on your bike if you do them and take very little time to do. Chain adjustment is one of them since it helps slow speed riding.

You could also consider swapping out the chain for a better quality one, like the DID Chain 428 VX (X-Ring), which will reduce the number of adjustments you have to do because it won't stretch as much.

Things I'd say are probably worth learning how to do on the bike for mechanically less inclined individuals:
  • Oil changes/oil level - better shifting, better bike operation. You know how to do this already.
  • Automatic clutch adjustment - better shifting, fewer missed shifts. Takes about 30s once you're familiar with the process.
  • Chain oil, adjustment and slack - easier and smoother slow speed riding experience. Is fairly quick but still takes me about 10 minutes. A quality chain will reduce the number of adjustments needed.
  • Brake pad wear inspection (this is mostly just visual) - I'd rather have a bike that stops and doesn't go than a bike that goes and doesn't stop. Inspection doesn't mean you need to know how to replace the pads, just that you know you do need to book it in for a service.
    • Brake fluid inspection is a little more nuanced for wearing out but if you can pull this off, it's mostly a visual check. Or use a calendar reminder to replace the fluid regularly and just check that there's enough fluid regardless of the condition.
  • Nuts, bolts, fasteners - verify they're still there and not coming loose or missing. Coupled with blue threadlocker in the right places and a torque wrench, and you're a pro.
  • Wheels/Tires - make sure you're not rolling on damaged / worn out tires, and that they're inflated to the right pressure.
Most of these are "gas station parking area" level of difficulty.

if you have a friend that is mechanically inclined, a second set of eyes can go a long way. you can do it. .02

Just FYI, there isn't a 1,000 mile service.
The first service is 600 miles (1,000 km which might be what you're thinking of?), next is at 4,000 miles. Documented in the Owner's Manual page 39. Honda recommends inspecting the chain every 300 miles, but really it's a good practice to check it more regularly like every time you ride or every fuel up - you don't need to measure the slack every time but you can still eyeball it and make sure the master link clip is secure.

I may have been riding mine a bit hard since this is my first bike and, like many things, I'm not sure what I'm doing, but at about 4,000 miles I had adjusted the chain, readjusted the chain, and re-readjusted the chain as far back as it would go and it still had slack. I upgraded to a DID 428VX and it is a remarkable difference. Put it on around the 5,000-mile mark and haven't had to adjust it once (currently at 6,300 miles) since then.

Thanks so much for the replies. I looked things over and decided to wait for 2000 miles since nothing seems to be wrong.
