Sorry if this topic has been discussed before but I see a lot of threads on the 13 tooth front sprocket but have not found any on the 15 tooth sprocket. I ask because my riding is all street at higher speeds and rpm and here in South Florida it’s as flat as a road kills corpse so hills are not something that concerns me.
My question is will it give any top end speed or will it just reduce the top end rpm a little? If any one has done this I would be interested to hear your thoughts.

It will of course reduce your RPMs a bit. You will also lose 3 to 5 MPH in 4th on flat ground depending on your weight and gear you drag along. You will lose more on any grade and will likely need to downshift to get up and over overpasses. I don't like to flog the devil out of an engine so the idea of gearing that allows running at a bit lower RPM on flat ground , I also live in Gods state ;) , appeals to me. I am keeping the 14 as it looks to be the best fit for those that do not want to start down the one more mod road. Those pesky Honda engineers might know their stuff.:cool:

it'll just drop speed, especially on a stock bike. been there. these motors, int he tune they are in on the trail is nowhere near what max rpm is, even wound up.

Has anyone changed the rear sprocket to one or two teeth less? Wouldn't it change the gearing in the same direction but be a lower % of change?

14T-37T would be closest to the 15T-39 combination without exceeding that ratio. The sprocket definitely exists at least in the form of a JTR269.37.

Your understanding is correct. It's only about a 2.6% change.

I have been running a one tooth smaller rear sprocket for the past year, and it drops the rpm a little and it seems a little less buzzy.
i don't think it has changed the speed, or pulling ability of the bike, however it did correct the "optimistic " speedo reading.
mine was reading like 2mph high. does not affect the ABS.
I feel it was worth it.
