Has anyone tried a 42 tooth sprocket on the rear, with the stock 14 on the front? If so do you remember how many MPH you lost on top end. Any thought on this combo. I have the sprocket I bought before I actually got my bike. I have been running the stock set up for 200 miles. I had it off road the other day and it lost power on a pretty steep incline I had been wanting to try to climb. The hill is not something I will be doing a lot, it was really more I was testing out the bike, but If the 42 doesn't kill my top to bad it might be better for me. Guess I need to put it on and give it a go. I like this little bike a lot. Man I just wish it had the low range selector like the old bikes. It would be awesome then. Thanks, EE.

+3 teeth in the rear works out to be the same ratio as -1 tooth in the front, so 14T/42T should be the same as the more popular (cheaper and easier) 13T/39T combo which there are some posts on this forum about as well as reviews of on YouTube.

Howdy, How did you like the 42T rear sprocket?? I'm changing my rear tire and thinking of swapping the stock rear sprocket with the 42T . Did you leave it on permanatly? Do you wish you just did the 13T front instead?

I'm thinking going to 42 rear sprocket. With a 15-tooth front sprocket your ratio is same as stock. Now you have a choice of 14 and 13 sprockets for off road.

Thats a good idea! Seems it would be that much better off road when you put the 13 T on with the 42 T already installed on rear. Also since front sprocket change is fairly easy.

I’m sorry. I had plans to and wanted to see the change it would make, but I never did the switch. Guess I was too busy riding, lol. I put 3090 miles on my bike last year. I just sold it a few weeks back. The only reason was because I was a little under powered when I had to get on the highway, which really wasn’t that often. Most of my riding was on backroads in my area. I miss it already and wish I could have afford to keep it. I bought a CRF300 Rally.

Well thats cool.......How do you like the Rally so far? I've been thinking about getting one as well for the same reason. Itchy Boots has certainly tested it out

I’ve only put about 100 miles on it so far. It’s been a little cool to ride. The only thing so far is I have a little trouble getting on it. I’m 6’ tall but I’m almost 60 years old. Not as flexible as I once was, lol. No complaints with the bike though. I don’t really hear a 5k rattle like some have talked about. Kickstand should be an inch and half longer.
