Got lucky and found an NOS tank for my 70 R5. these are impossible for the most part to find with correct paint. Got lucky, friend tipped me off of one on ebay and snagged it. Never had fuel in it, and one scratch on the back which i touched up. Not bad for 'new' 52 year old tank at all. Yes, it was expensive. (ive never seen another correct one come up for sale).

hard to see, but the top was totally faded and there were dents all over it. saw wrinkled bad enough the cap had a tough time sealing up as the flange wasnt 100% square.

heres the replacement that came:

scratch touched up and on bike. all paint on bike is oem original, including frame etc. This is serial number 02000 ever, so was built in 69 and has some oddities on it which i wont get into, but its a neat one for sure. Only one in the states ive ever seen lower was at barber and it was 01690 something, 2nd floor on one of the 'bike trees'.

I've had this since.. 2011 or so? came out of barber vintage fest swap meet. Note: the seat that is on it is a hand made replacement for the stock pan, early 70's had a rounded seat at back, not sure when they changed them but they squared off more later in the run. this is actually correct for the vin , and the stencil on the back was done just for this cover, and is correct. (have very talented local guy that does this sort of work).

this is a super reliable bike, i serviced all the maintenance stuff but haven't had to get into the top end as of yet. (somebody did in the past.. not sure how or when) has never left me on the side of the road, and i ride this one probably more than any of the other vintage bikes.
