ABS issue

Today I went for a little ride and noticed that my ABS light was blinking. "hmm, that's weird" I said to myself. So I pulled over, shut it off and restarted, then took off again. The light turned off within about 15ft as normal, but then about 100 yds down the trail the ABS light was back on and blinking. So in my mind I'm thinking, "Huh, I wasn't expecting to need to use the warranty but maybe I will." Then another mile or so later I started noticing that the dash was turning off and back on. Well that's goofy. And seems like I've got some sort of electrical gremlin that's moving through the sparky pipes. Well I found a wide spot in the trail to pull over and investigate a bit. No obvious damage, so I figure I'll just turn around and head home, then call the dealership on Tuesday and let them sort it out. Of course I turned the key back on and nothing. No lights, no fuel pump, nuttin'. Well, that's what the kickstart lever is for, right? I kicked it over and the gal fired right up. No dash, but the engine was running fine.

Well on the ride home the dash was really glitching out. The last few miles it was more off than on, and the ABS light was still blinking like crazy. This is obviously an intermittent connection, and just a few days ago I had installed an SAE connection so I can put one of the battery maintainers on it, and also use it as a power port. So I dug back into the connection and sure enough my positive battery connection was loose. It turns out the bolt had cross threaded, so when I thought it was tight it was actually just sitting there all wonky. Well I pulled it all apart, cleaned up the threads and put it all back together. Then I took it back out for a few miles and confirmed the bike is still in fine condition, no need to engage the warranty.

Bottom line: if the ABS light is flashing and the dash is glitching out check your battery connections. The bike WILL run without the battery, but I don't recommend it!
