Glad it looks like you were geared up appropriately. Y'all were there at a great time of year for fall colors, hopefully your wife remembers that beauty more than the tailbone pain! I was there in August for peak Appalachian temperate rainforest season 🌧️ Beautiful place and a great ride, any time of year.

Everyone wants a Miata, S2k, or Lotus until they get embarrassed trying to crawl in or out of one in front of a crowd. Be sure to give it a good test ride and make sure you (and your ego!) are comfortable and capable with ducking your head, sitting down sideways and then swinging your legs in. It's a common reason some people sell them as they grow older.

Opps wrong CB "that her nickname" :censored:

On a side note, if you are going to ride in the southeast get ahold of one of the series of these pocket maps that covers you area of interest. They are great. I just bought the whole set plus the special one for norther Georgia, southeast Tennessee, northeast Alabama and some parts of North and South Carolina. Show the gravel roads and trails besides the main paved tree covered twisty country roads.

Ive been riding up in that area since 98... but i do appreciate for the other guys. (yes i have maps like that as well). 1st time in the area was on my old 75 CB750F, next time was on a new SV650 (99) and that's when I -really- started appreciating those roads. I've probably done 30 trips to the area, usually for 3 days to a week long each time. (its 4 hours away)

Amen! A Miata has been on my radar for a while. A couple of years ago I tested-out a new one and was surprised by how cramped it was (I'm not a big dude) and how low to the ground it is (I'm a truck guy) so I passed.

Then about a year ago I saw a lifted Miata driving around. I learned that it's possible to add a 3" Lift Kit and run larger tires. I know it's wrong but I like the idea and started looking around for beat-up or Salvage-title Miata's I could lift. My logic was that a lifted Miata would be easier (for me) to get in and out of. Fairly useful on graded dirt roads in the forest (like the ones 20 minutes from my house), looks different then stock...however another vehicle is about the last thing I need right now (I'm out of places to park) so getting one is not in the cards...at least for now
