Hi,

I just picked up the Apache 4800 top case. How are you guys mounting the top cases?

Thanks,
Josh

One of my next projects, is to make a template out of thin plastic, so I can drill holes easily and I can add different cases quickly.
... I figured I'd use the amazon boxes I get a lot of as needed (to make templates).

RE: mounting the box, I saw there was a member a while back that added a rubber mat to protect the rack and also reduce vibrations.

I highly recommend this as well if you don't want a marked up rack, just having a plastic milk crate mounted to mine when I first got it rubbed into some of the paint.

I'm not worried about the paint. I haven't wrecked yet, but I will.

I found some silicone tape seal for outside applications for windows or doors. I put it on before I mounted my wald bike basket. I guess I’ll see what it looks like in a few years. Wanted to make sure it didn’t hold water to rust if it does wear through the paint.

Sounds like a solid plan. For me I have some experience with using helicopter tape over a long period of time (and duct tape). The duct tape... never came off. That bicycle was donated to a buddy who has hit it with a blowtorch and welding gear since then, and it's STILL got the duct tape residue on it. I think at this point it's molecularly bonded. The next bike, I learned my lesson and liberally applied helicopter tape instead on the glossy paint coat. 4 years later and thousands of miles when I got rid of the bike, I pulled the tape off. It was a tiny bit more brittle than when I applied it, but came off with no marks and no residue. Something like that, but as a sheet that can be cut into a template, would be a way better option than helicopter tape, but I don't know of any product like that. The guy that applied bedliner to his rack also got me interested, since I'm less concerned about the paint job, more concerned about being a little vain but also about longevity over time.

Here is what I used, Best I could find at home depot. Just 3M cleared the wife and I's new MTB's too, amazingly simple with a wet application. I think it is like the helicopter tape but thinner. Again, I haven't taken the basket off yet so who knows?? I sprayed the chrome basket with steel-it, an amazing product also.

Yep, hold in excess of a 30 and a 12 pack!!! There are threaded inserts built in, between the washers spreading the load to the plywood I painted black is pretty good. The walls are lower then the milk crate on the 1975 so it took the dog a few rides to get used to it!
I was a dock Porter On mackinac island, I could carry 2-3 full size pieces of luggage and 4 more carry on style bags to the hotel on my schwinn cruiser. The plywood is the key to keep it rigid.

I found a nice teak cutting board, mounted to rack with threaded inserts on rack. Screwed the thule basket to the cutting board. Looks cool and protects the paint.
