Biffed it

I biffed it once on the way home from work tonight. 3-4” of heavy snow over tarmac, doing about 10 mph on a flat. No injuries or damage at all, in fact the landing was really soft. I’m not really sure what happened. I think that I kept my hands on the grips. It was like an akido master just took all my energy and momentum and spiraled it upon itself and I found myself sitting in the snow with the bike running on its side at my left. I just picked it up and rode on. I guess the low speed was my saving grace.

What tires are you running?
I’m running the Kenda Trakmaster 760, front and back, with studs on both tires and chains on the back when it seems necessary. Chains were on during the Great Biff. It was my first time ever laying a bike down, if you don’t include some silly driveway tip-overs at zero speed.

I'm glad you wern't hurt! I give you props for riding in conditions like that. I took a ride last weekend (not on my Trail but another bike) early one morning (it was 45F) just to see if that was doable for me (going to start using a moto to commute to work next year). It was but I was dressed like I was going to Alaska! And the water-cooled bike I was riding never really got-up to normal temp in the ten minute there, sit for an hour then ten minute ride back home.

Thanks, friend. The winter riding thing surely isn’t everyone’s style, but it suits me well for now. I’m actually trying to save up for a decent automobile, maybe by next winter. We’ll see. I also want to buy another bike…

Don't know your particulars, but the money saved when using a vehicle that gets 120 MPG is significant. I only live 1.2 miles from work but my truck gets single digits until it warms up and hits the highway. THEN it gets decent mileage but 1.2 mile trips were burning through a tank way too quickly. Gas, and the purchase of, for the Trail 125 is an afterthought. If I'm low and can just steal some from my gas for the mower.
Best of luck saving for your automobile purchase!

It's not just that. I'm a data guy, and I've run the numbers. This bike is cheaper to run than some bicycles. It's not just the fuel, it's the fact that the servicing is really easy on the bike as well, and the parts are a dime a dozen.

Plus, my insurance was like $76 bucks for the year, including theft coverage.

Yeah, bicycle insurance (e.g. Veloinsurance) is generally benchmarked at replacing the entire value of the bicycle (new) every 11y, and they have very little variation in that area. So if it was an equivalently priced bicycle, based on MSRP it would be $364 a year. Again, cheaper than a bicycle.

Dingo, you really do bring a lot to any discussion. Very cool. Not just you, of course, there’s lots of talent on this board. Thanks, amigo.
