I understand that in order to import a new bike from out of state to California ( less than 7500 miles is considered a new bike in CA) It must have a California emission sticker.
Does the CT125 has this kind of sticker ?

IMPORTING MOTORCYCLES FROM OTHER STATES BY CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS Individuals are prohibited from importing, purchasing, or leasing a new vehicle from another state, unless the vehicle was manufactured for sale in California, and the EPA label certifies the vehicle has California smog equipment. California considers a new vehicle to be any vehicle with less than 7,500 miles on the odometer AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE.

I registered one in CA that was purchased in CT. No problems with CA DMV as they all have the sticker on the swingarm.

Hello Ems. can you please elaborate on the process ?
If I purchase the CT125 from a private pary outside of california, what do I need to get from them as far as paperwork, what is the best way to arrange transportation etc..

I believe if you buy from a private party, you can do everything at AAA. However, I bought mine from a dealer. I had a bill of sale & title from the purchase. I took it to the CA DMV, where they check the frame number, engine number & that emissions sticker. I had to fill out another form, though I can't remember the name & pay sales tax & registration for CA. If you pay sales tax in the state you buy it in, you don't have to pay twice, but need to have paperwork. All in all, was pretty easy. I think it's explained here: https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/vehicle-registration/new-registration/register-a-motorcycle/ - you just want to look for info on registration from out of state.

Re shipping, I wouldn't recommend the co. I used as they took nearly a month more than they estimated to ship.

I have used https://shipyourcarnow.com/ for shipping vehicles, including internationally. I would highly recommend Ship Your Car Now (they do motorcycles too) if the price works for you. The website might look faceless, but you're able to keep in text/call/email communication with the person managing your shipment and they really do a great job smoothing out all the logistics.

uShip is an online marketplace where you post what you need shipped and people bid on it. It's a cheaper option, but you also risk having someone show up that ratchet straps the bike down to the trailer so hard they blow out the suspension - so be sure to read reviews before accepting a shipper there.
