Does anyone else find their CT125 is extremely hard to shift from 1st to 2nd when engine is cold? After it warms up all gears shift smoothly.

Thanks1

I wouldn’t say “extremely hard” but the first shift of the day is a little clunkier than the others but only the first one. Nothing like German bikes, those will break a bone when it’s cold.

G'day Rex, I see that this is your first post - is your bike new?

I found the shifting was a bit rougher until the first oil change, and additionally the automatic clutch went out of tolerance faster than expected and that made it VERY difficult to shift properly. I have a maintenance thread and early on noted the shifting was harder in the first 300 mi and resolved by me doing the automatic clutch adjustment. This is a super simple task, takes about 30s once you get the hang of it. 14mm wrench and a flathead screwdriver are all that's needed.

Thanks for the input. My bike is less than a year old and already received its first service. I will check out the automatic clutch adjustment. Thanks again.

My bike has the exact same problem. I got it in April and now have 250 miles on it. Shifting to second is very difficult until it warms up. I am going to change the oil before I ride it any more.

I have the same issue. It wasn't noticeable until after a few hundred miles. Still does it sometimes after near 600 miles, the 1st oil change and clutch adjustment.

No problem shifting. Acted funny once around 2000 miles but still shifted fine. Adjusted clutch again, and shifts perfect, cold or warm.

Mine is occasionally hard especially when cold as well. The clutch adjustment helped some. Haven't changed the oil yet coming soon.

Could leaving it in gear overnight cause something to "stick"? I've been making an effort to put it in neutral after riding and it hasn't happened again. Previously I'd just ride the bike into the garage & turn it off in 1st gear, leave it that way.

If it does, it's probably a very small part of a larger cause.

FWIW, at 1900 mi on the odometer, this doesn't happen anymore. Seems to me like a wearing in problem. It still pops a little when cold (more of an ECU thing), but I have no shifting issues. Keep on riding, it'll probably go away.

every bike i have ever owned, new, took a bit for the shifting to 'settle' a bit. keep in mind, 100 degree oil is still relatively thick.
