The entirety of most of my mechanical mistakes summarized in a single sentence. Glad it wasn't worse! Was tired and should have slowed down
It runs great! I am anal about my modes of transport, especially when being stranded could be catastrophic. I treat all my machines like they were an aircraft. Ever been flying in a small plane when the pilot exclaims ( OH SHIT ! ). A few seconds later, she states, I might have forgot to turn off the coffee maker. For a few seconds it was serious! Ever been out to sea when the motor died? Some lucky bastard might own the RED ROCKET soon, when I make it as good as it can be. I bought a 2000 DR 200 SE yesterday with 2000 miles on it. I got to get rid of a truck or two and a motorcycle soon so I can do shit other than work on it. Like ride and enjoy. After back surgery,I could not handle the weight of anything more. I broke the mirror on the first day putting it in the shed ,and wasn't even on it. A year later ,two years after surgery,I am ready to move up to the big leagues! 200 cc ! Stop laughing! Four or more incidents in the first month, none since. The entirety of most of my mechanical mistakes summarized in a single sentence. Glad it wasn't worse!
Thanks. I checked mine at cold, and might be mistaken, but it was about 95 psi cold. I will check when warm. That would explain light smoke on startup, but it runs fantastic. I believe I can outrun my DR 200,and actually my KTM 390 adv on the roads I ride due to my lack of riding experience on a bigger bike. I am sure I over gapped the top rings by a a few thousandths. Top was probably 14 as well as second ring. I put the gaps 180 degrees apart hoping it might mitigate my mistake. One too many strokes with a file.It I can outrun cars on the twistys. I put snorkel hose back in place due to rain the other day,and noticed sound/performance difference right away, but ECU was correcting it soon after. Not sure, may have improved torque.as a very looong follow up/reply, well over 1k on mine, its at 205psi warm cranking compression
make sure you hold the throttle wide open when checking.
im not sure whats up w the 390, but my old 390 duke would just beak 100 mph stock.
I have not had the 390 over about 70 mph,but I have not been on a road that I can see more than a half mile straightaway, and deer, and lately bears are as common as cars on days I have been out. The KTM has a side stand safety feature that I am going to bypass. It caused me stall taking off from stop sign, and fell over and it has taken a couple of weeks to get back on it, I was lucky. Going slightly up and to the right, with slight downhill to right as I started from stop, got up to about 5 mph, stalled, then fell over before I could react. But I am not sure I could have stopped what happened. Start from stop, slight uphill, then sloped to right. 5 mph at best, 2 seconds ,on ground. Big bruises! Stupid safety shit has probably killed more sensible people, than morons it has saved.make sure you hold the throttle wide open when checking.

I obviously have read it wrong. I did not know to have throttle wide open. I mean it actually wil go as fast as I want,I usually keep it under 55 mph. I was going up rt 600 from Chilhowie to Konnarock at midway point on hill from stop, and could maintain 45 mph in third gear. I could only get about 28 mph in second gear before BBK, and it was really struggling. Rolling hills ,55 mph uphill no problem, and after cresting a hill or two,I am not in the throttle over half the time to keep speed below 55 mph.for posterity, full temp.
