Looking to organize a ride with fellow CT125 riders that are lucky to own one. Let me know if you're interested and I can put a ride together. I have a 2022 CT125 :)

I'm interested but I'd have to roll down from Seattle. I'm currently "unemployed"[1] so my schedule is free for the next month or so.

[1] status change pending.

Nice, thinking windy ridge since it is open now...lnk when you want to roll down...

Sure. I mean, generally speaking I'm just doing performance mods on my motorcycle and taking care of house things right now. Windy Ridge being... St. Helens?

Well, this is what I think.

Suggested start point: Castle Rock, WA. It has a visitors center, food, fuel, and all the necessary services needed. It's also a reasonable distance from Portland.
How will we know who the other guy is: Lol
Routing:
  • DTE should be around the 130 mi mark, maybe a little lower, so this is definitely a ride where I'll have to think more about where I fuel up, or bring a can.
  • For Seattle, tentative route looks like this for me. That's a 147 mi ride to get to the start line.
  • For Portland, tentative route is approximately what Google Maps comes up, approximately 65 mi.
    • The bridge at Longview is the only point I'd really be a bit nervous (the Lewis and Clark bridge has a 35 mph speed limit though so it should be fine).
  • From Castle Rock, it's 108 mi to get to the observatory and back, plus any unexpected... uh... detours.
  • Route back is likely to follow the route I used to get to the start line but I have some other ideas that might also work.
Considerations:
  • The St. Helens visitor center is open from 10am to 6pm each day, including Sundays.
  • Check road conditions before going.
  • Johnston Ridge Observatory has an elevation of 4000 ft; wind chill and adiabatic lapse rate means it'll be substantially cooler at the top.
  • To single day this, it's 402 mi for a single day for me, or what I expect to be 12h overall.
    • For me, it might be best for me to make it a camping trip on the return leg, which drops that distance down to around 250 mi, or ~8h of riding.
    • Not a bad idea since Seaquest State park has been a place I've wanted to camp at for ages, I have the camping gear already, and it's almost on the way. The only consideration is I'd need to have a bit of advance time to book a campsite.
    • This would also mean that Friday or Saturday would not be optimal as days to go
    • Sunday through Thursday would be better
Thoughts?

Revisiting this because 5 weeks from today I will be starting a new job. I'll keep coming back to this and saying what days I can't do and modifying this post. If I end up choosing a specific date to do it and just going for it, I'll add an additional post here.

Currently my blocked out days are:
  • Now +7d or so (COVID)
  • August 22, 23
  • August 31

I did not get much interest apart from you SneakyDingo. I am hoping for a local meetup in Portland before doing a longer ride...any greater Portland area CT125 riders out there??

Is this still a thing? The weather sucks now but I wouldn't mind finding others that wanna do some around town riding.

Misery loves company. I'm sure local meetups are definitely a thing. The St. Helens ride never materialized as I got COVID towards the end of my time period where it would have been reasonable to do it.

Well, if the weather is dry enough I'm always down for an impromptu cruise/trail hunt. I found a spot near the Columbia that's pretty fun. Definitely need to get my knobby's installed.

I suggest: meet up at Oregon City and ride N, Clackamas River Rd. to Dodge (25 mi). From there you can enter the Nat'l Forest on S. Hillcockburn Rd. Many dirt opportunities on the South side of Clackamas River
