Did anyone else buy a Super Cub as a hold over until the Trail 125 is available ?

yup. had it 8 years (from new), i really liked it a lot, but was just time to move on. Sold it and made quite a bit of money on it which was a nice bonus. the profit alone paid for most of my cb1100 when i bought it new. and yes, it has mags. lol. and i never liked the triumph scramblers performance, they are just gutless. well, the ones of that era were.

The truth is that the Moto tires in the mid 1970's were *much* softer in the bead and sidewalls, these days I take my new tires / tubes to the local shop , they have a fancy-schmancy tire machine that doesn't even scratch alloy wheels .

I also haven't had a puncture in decades .

I'm more stubborn (mule headed) or stupid than determined .

I haven't changed a tire in years. it sucks, and that's the only reason why, i fkn hate doing it. I have a cell phone for that. However, if i did do off road stuff on this bike, id run a tube . extra layer of protection IMHO. and Id trust anew tube vs a plug anyday on this small a tire.

No bike shop for 75 miles, I bought a No Mar tire changer for my own use. After doing it by hand for the last 50 years, the machine is pretty nice.

I try to only carry tools to change a tire/tube when I know I'll be far from help. For on the road riding I have AAA Plus RV which covers motorcycle towing better than my motorcycle insurance policy. Hoping to get a tire machine in the near future once I sort out the space for it, seems like it would pay for itself in swear jar dollars vs doing it by hand, or the hassle of bringing the bike or wheel to a shop to have them do it. I have my eye on a No Mar one coincidentally.
What model do you have? Any trouble with it?
Their tire mounting paste works great and cleans up easy, can even repackage some of it into a small tube for carrying in a flat repair kit. Helped a lot with changing the tires on the CT125 when ammonia-free Windex wasn't much help for getting the new tire on - no kidding about the newer tires having harder sidewalls! I went with heavier duty tubes figuring even if they're not as great of a ride they're probably worth it to help prevent accidental pinch flats from spooning the tires on and off.

If i lived in remote area, id def do it. I can do it, not that hard, just hate doing it. Like mowing my lawn. Fk that. I have better things to do with my time. But, i get it. Ive doen afew long roadtrips, and on bikes with spoked tires I absolutely carried a tire iron and tubes and a patch kit. But that was years ago and luckily never had to do it.

My issue with tubeless tires is that if it breaks the bead seal, its not always guaranteed to get it to seal back up on the side of the road... i've dealt with this 1st hand. this is why IMHO a tube is preferred.

In..... (197?) I got a job at San Gabriel Motocycle Salvage, Fred Merkel was the propritior and me being the new guy of course gut stuck doing tires & tubes . luckily at that time few alloy (Akront etc.) rims were in service so I got a 35 gallon grease barrel and laid a bit of short nap carpet over the open end and used that to support Motocycle wheels as I buzzed them off and on by hand using long tire irons .

If you do it daily it becomes *much* easier ~ today's tire beads (the part against the rim) are much, *MUCH* stronger than the old days .

I don't trust tubeless tires on Motocycles, I know they're safe and all that .

If you really want to reseat the bead on any tubeless tire in the bush, go look on you tube under dune buggy tire seating but don't say I told you to do this when you're in the hospital .

This is just one more of those things that are *very* dangerous and so shouldn't be done but you mentioned it .

Along with pulling the tube out the side of the tire, we also often had stem leaks and so would need to modify a patch with a hole so it'd slide down the valve stem and seal a stem base leak...

There's lots of things I know how to do that I don't recommend .

I call them "Farm Fixes" but I learned many in 3rd world places too .

yup. trip back from barber motorsports years ago (7 hours away) my buddy on his bmw got a flat. unseated the bead. he was stuck till the tow truck showed up, we couldn't get it to re-seat to plug it, and hes one of the most well prepared riders i know. Hes carried a tube ever since 'just in case'.

I've repaired dozens of tires on the road and on the trail, it's no fun but not terrible either. I carry a spare tube, three 8" tire spoons and some automotive patches and glue along with a small foot pump and a little lube. Just take your time and go slow. The No Mar tire changer works great, here is the model I have. The CT tires are so easy I just did them by hand.

I been told July to get a Trail 125.
I couldn't wait that long, so I got a Super Cub.
Now I need to decide what to do when then Trail 125 comes in...
Do I keep the Super Cub or sell it.. Hmmmm.

I was told buy my local dealer it would be next spring before I could get a trail, I have a navi I got for my wife to ride, she didn't like it and I'm not in love with it so long story short I found a 22 supercub for 4094 out the door at heinen motorsports in Minneapolis, 5 hrs from me in SD so I picked it up on Sat, on Tuesday my dealer called and said my trail would be in later this month. Story of my life, so I've decided to sell the navi and keep both 125s, thanks to an understanding wife of course. What would you have done?

i would have skipped the navi, but thats me.

I hadnt seen a grey cub, thats pretty neat. I will tell you, the cub is def 'sportier' tune wise than the trail stock to stock.
Yea I definitely like the supercub, still really excited about the trail, I've got plans for the little red bike next year. As for the navi, it's a good little bike for what it is, I am personally not a fan of the cv type drive on the bike, but that's just me. My wife has never ridden before and I thought the navi was the easiest bike for her to learn on, she thought the bike always felt unstable and tippy.

BYO everything, tire changer was just supplied, leave a tip in the jar on your way out and bring something for a potluck lunch sort of deal. 2-3x a year with the FJR1300A crew, which was a shaft drive so not as simple as these bikes.

While it's $500, if you're willing to make it a long term investment and can swing that (as in you're part of the right kind of communities and you're willing) the tire changer will pay for itself in a moderate amount of time. IIRC the guy paid his off in about 2-3 years.

I used to love Tech Days. A CT Club/group I used to ride with would have them once or twice a year. An air-cooled VW Club I used to belong to did as well. I always walked away learning a ton. I even hosted a couple of VW ones and found that to be fun as well. Always fun to get together with a group of like-minded individuals.
