DIY: Lowering Your Footpegs via the Footpeg Bracket

I used the info on this site a lot (via Google) in preparing my Trail for offroad shenanigans, so I figured it was time to register and pay some info forward.

If you're tall, and/or have big feet - there really aren't good pegs available to lower your foot position. I picked up the official Honda Rally Pegs for the bike, and they did help a bit. But here's a way to drop them more.

Chase down some spacers. M8 bolt size, 10mm thick, and 20mm in diameter. This lets you drop your whole peg bracket assembly lower...

Add 10mm to your stock bolt length via hardware from your local Ace or True Value hardware store. The ones pictured are near identical to the OEM bolts. The spacers came from Amazon.

Adds some knee room overall and space to get your toe under the shifter. Levels out the peg and brake for easier use standing as well. You have to oval out one hole on each of the "engine bars" or whatever they are called but it's not too bad - a Dremel works fine. The lower position changes the bolt approach angle a little. It did help to loosen (but not remove) the bolts up at the top to buy a little wiggle room before tightening everything back down.

Bonus: if you have bigger tires this also lowers your kickstand bringing it back to a proper height again.

This was torture-tested on the Northern Califiornia BDR, and held up fine under abuse, impacts, and at least one crash that dug a peg into Mother Earth. You can see the 800 billion hit marks from rocks and trail debris. For street only, I bet you could use even longer spacers/bolts but there is probably a reasonable limit you would come to at some point.

This is a great idea!
As a taller rider I very much appreciate it and I will be doing this one even though I just made my side stand longer, no biggie to shorten it up again.. lol. thank you!

Great idea and what a difference a centimeter makes! Thank you for sharing, NCD. Between your mod and handlebar risers and reversing the mount, the bike fits my 6'3" frame much better. If you happen to see this, would you kindly advise on the Rally pegs you spoke of? I've looked and looked and can't seem to find which one's I should purchase. Thank you!

Hi mate

The Rally Pegs are an Honda option, however they are not sold in the US market. Canada Honda lists them though :)

Cheers

Honda CBR pegs also fit and drop the peg height for (slightly) more leg room. Downside to them and the Rally Pegs is that you lose the rubber cushion so you'll feel more vibration from the pegs to your feet.
