To send a DM, you hover on someone's icon and start a conversation with them. Alternatively the little mail icon on the top right will sort you out.
To bookmark a post, you can click the icon on the top right of the post. It will present to you a small dialog that will ask if you want to add any notes or a label or something, I don't use the feature very often.
To get to your bookmarks after you've done that, you go to your profile on the top right, click the icon next to your name, and a dialog box pops up. There's a tab that says "Your account" by default; select Bookmarks next to it and you'll see your bookmarks. You can also click your account and on the left side there will be a bookmarks menu.
