ECU upgrade headaches.. possible solution (for the engine modding members)

Unless you have a fancy device or app that pulls in topographical info or an altimeter's readings, GPS is just going to be speed based on latitude and longitude with no account for elevation changes, so it's only "ground speed" on flat ground.
If you are aware ,there is no flat Earth. If you are in south Florida, and the GPS indicates 50 mph, you are going 56 mph on radar. If you are somewhere else, anybody's guess what your local law enforcement will determine when checking your speed ,when relying on GPS as a speedometer.

i would get something to control the fuel a bit, especially with air filter and exhaust changes. the intake in particular makes the biggest single difference.
I was told by nearby gear head that the ecu should compensate for up to 15 percent adjustment. He also told me that the cam change would probably do more for me than the big bore without cam change. It is fast enough, but going up a mile or two stretch up White Top mountain where 30 in third for a mile or two then to 40 mph for same hill. There is usually nobody behind me and I think Sunday afternoons would be a no go just because I live here and can go when I want to.

I have been cleaning cabin I lived in before I moved up the hill . Bring a zero gravity chase lounge ,and a blanket, and pillow,and your own paper products and toiletries and spend a day or two. Bring a friend or two and I promise not to pick your brain on your first stay/visit.
A/C running cold/hot. 18459 Remine rd, Meadowview Va, 24361. Google Earth it/satellite view. Consider it payment for your help to others ,that couldn't buy your help,if it were available to them, which it would probably prove difficult to obtain if it were available.

When we race off-road we use the gps to show the speed in speed zones and stay under the 32 or 60mph, never been dinged. I also calibrated the speedo on our motor home and the road side radar signs correlate. I don’t usually see a 10%+ variation but it is pretty flat here in the desert!

yeah neither of that is true. But ok.

road side radar signs correlate
That matches my experience. Phone GPS and Garmin GPS have always matched radar signs by me in the midwest, and I have never noticed any unusual readings when touring. Speedometers have always been 1.5%-10% high depending on bike manufacturer and tire choice/wear.

side note, ecu updated ship date: tomorrow. lol. we'll see about that. (they did just move their distribution center so i get it).

So, aside from going from a standalone (which is still 'iffy' in my opinion on this bike) I decided i'd go ahead and do some digging and ask some questions of those that actually flash ecus. Heres what i found out:

so, the trail one can not be re-flashed due to a map sensor issue that ONLY the super cubs and trails have. says its unique and i can see that. also, it CAN be bypassed.
However, the 2022 grom and monkey ecus have the same interface as the trails do. those CAN be remapped. the timing curve on the trail is what's really holding back any potential power. the new gen ecus all run in open loop fueling, so, they WILL indeed learn fueling through the whole rpm and throttle range. (probably why mine hasnt blown up yet)

the cyl and head are the same across all models. the throttle body is the same size. New groms can do 72 mph legit with a pipe and a reflash and not be stressed. so, what i did was i have ordered a 2022 grom ecm. it was cheap. I'm going to plug it in to the trail when it arrives, and see if there are any issues. the only one i am sort of expecting is the map sensor, and if that's truly by-passable (which they do with standalone ecms.. ;) ) I should be ok. If everything is good,, i can then send that out for a reflash and should be right as rain, and be in under 250 bucks total. this will open up the possibility for serious big bore kits, etc.

when i get this tried out will report, its supposedly on way now. :D
I do not think my rev limiter is working anymore. I do remember it would cut in when it was new,in second , occasionally in third,now it keeps on going till I shift. Runs fantastic Only strong headwinds and steep hills keep me from hitting 55 mph( on speedometer) which is too fast on 90 percent of roads I ride. Oh by the way, I put deer whistles on it, and I do know they work. But I am sure there is a deaf deer out there. They look up at you when they are eating,when normally they do not.Most likely cause of wreck around here, with a high probability of encounter in evening, mornings. 55 mph would make stopping sketchy, plus lots of curves. Better then traffic though.

Hey guys, seems like the right thread to ask… got a 165cc kit for my postie including cams/ injectors at home and was wondering IF I can use the cams / big bore kit on the stock ecu or if I should leave out cams/ both until a flashed ecu option is available. I know there are custom ecus but I’m not any good with that stuff.
