I bought a 21' CT125 in LA and rode it back to the Bay Area (~400miles), The oil had been dealer changed the immediately before the trip. It was a hot day and I was 90% throttle for most of that mileage. Net result was when I did an oil change at home, I measured ~470ml (eek) seems like a bad number considering oil capacity is 700ml, it was also pretty black. I did smell some clutch/oil burning at the gas stops, but checked the dipstick at the halfway point and it was low but still registering in the "ok" band,

My question is, is this expected for the bike under these riding conditions ?,.

That's not normal for 400 street miles...the hot smell is normal for hot day riding...have you taken it to a dealer for a check up?

Not yet, I’m going to do another 500miles and measure the oil again. I can’t rule out that the dealer screwed up. This time I know exactly how much oil was put in.

There are two kinds of bikes according to people on this forum:
  • Those that burn oil
  • Those that don't.
Mine's in the "don't" category on Honda GN4.

Scooter Cannonball Run guys on C125 Supercubs said they were losing oil and could feel it, dropping a quart every 1000 mi was their statement. QuasiMotard stated he was riding approximately the same as your throttle (90% WOT). When you crunch the math, that falls into the realm of what you're saying.

Check your air cleaner housing for excessive blow by from the crankcase gases. If you see an oily sludge in the air cleaner housing, that is not normal.
