Front brake off road, sometimes perfect, sometimes the pull feels glitchy...

Did a little single track loop here in the woods. Some times it is perfect, good power with the index finger and grabs about 1/2 way in. Other times with just the index finger it feels like the lever isn’t aligned and dragging on the pull from the very beginning, no free movement for the first part of the pull like normal.
I tried to isolate it to up hill, down hill, fast, slow, speed, bumps, angle of pull, every thing I could think of. Seems just hit or miss.
Anyone else experience this?
I may keep it simple and try some lube in the lever bolt area...

Are you leaving your fingers on the leaver as you ride? may be a short pumping action from the fingers over rough ground is moving the piston..
Only a thought!!!
