I broke off the little tabs on the first attempt. Using some thick 3M dot Velcro to replace. Not satisfactorily as its too thick and leaves a gap at the top though is secure. Second bike I got the right side cover off with our breaking the tabs but scratched the red paint at the top edge. Removing is a bitch to say the least. The manual only shows the tabs but not which way the hooks on them are oriented. UP by the way. Going to remove again and replace Velcro with thin black cloth type instead of 3M plastic dot type to see if it will pull top edge in more snugly. The single screw, single tiny plastic pop fastener and the two rubber friction nubs seem to hold OK with out the upper tabs. Not sure the Velco is actually doing anything. Work in progress.
