I heard from my dealer today. They got the information From Honda and confirmed that the issue is the gear shift lever. They told me that Honda is releasing the part as soon as November 1st, and they will try to get one as soon after that as possible. Hopefully I won’t have to wait for 3-6 months for parts to come from Asia.

It looks like this impacts all CT125’s built since 2021 model release.

More weld area looks good. Breaking that shifter off might cause a long walk here in the mountains where there is no cell coverage.

the upside to the heel being cut off is that it gives a nice corner to put a weld in on the backside. that alone would take care of it. (for those that already have one and are worried about it and have cut the back off).

with the amount of tools some guys on here carry, it would probably be within the realm or reality of building a forge and hammering out a new one in the wilderness.... :ROFLMAO:

judging by the XS shifter i had on my shelf @ home, (stock) the bend should be about spot on as well. Me? if i ever change it i'll go shorter as i mentioned in another earlier post, but these are long and chrome so will prob suit what this crowd seems to prefer.

the upside is, if the recall is active, we should all get a notice and get a new stock shifter from honda down the road as well. (y)

I just checked the Honda USA Powersports web site and checked under recalls by VIN and found mine is being recalled. Campaign Description QA: 2021 CT125A GEAR PEDAL RECALL
MFR Campaign ID: KM8.
Safety Risk: The gear pedal assembly may have insufficient weld strength and may fail. If the weld fail, the gear shift pedal may potentially break off with repeated use, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.
Remedy:
Call your authorized Honda powersports dealer and make an appointment for repair. If you have questions call Honda Powersports customer relations: 1-866-784-1870

With all the backlog's going on I'm sure the gear shift pedal's may not be available for awhile!

Thanks, sure enough mine has the recall too, their VIN form is just janky. If you add an extra number to the VIN it shows the result for the actual VIN.
Honda Powersports phone number said that because it's a safety recall a dealership has to install it to mark it off on their documentation. Just filed a service inquiry at my nearest dealership asking how accommodating they can be since I'm well over an hour away without taking highways. Would much rather take a highway capable vehicle to stop in without the bike and trade them the old shift pedal for the new one whenever they get it. 🤞

"Parts will be available starting November 1 2021"

NHTSA also has it listed now: https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/2021/HONDA/CT125#recalls

I'm sure its a liability issue with installing the shifter, someone might sue Honda if they did not install it right and it came off while riding!

depending how good a relationship you have with them makes all the difference. I've done a few recalls myself, let them bill for the repair time and they don't get to touch my bikes. win win. Did this for 2 2015 R3's, my old sv (tank seam and tach face peeled), and the fuel pump recall on the grom way back. Just depends how reasonable a service manager is and how well they trust your abilities.

Your right, it depends on the relationship with the dealer. It is a very simple change out!

How can you get stranded with an autoclutch? Carry some visegrips with ya til you've fixed it. Pick a gear and ride it out! My dealer is 2 hours away, if they don't send me the part I'll live. I've already bent it and will be adding some weld to the bottom plus melting through that top to go in deeper!

I oedered both gear shift levers from https://yamahaxs650.com/?s=shift+lever as mentioned above.
I ended up installing the longer lever as it fit my size eleven boots better than the shorter lever which is about the same as the stock lever.
I did have to bend the lever a bit to clear the engine case and also bended the end to starighten the shift pad. I think it looks just great and took it for a ride and it is spot on. Don't need no recall!
Long Yamaha lever installed. Stock lever and short Yamaha lever below.
