This thread is intended to document the confirmed fitment of various options for the foot shift lever / gearshift pedal / gear change pedal on the Honda Trail 125 (CT125).

If you would like an item added, please comment with details of the shift lever. Manufacturer, part number, link to product page, specific model year(s) of a different bike it's sold for, etc. The more details the better. Photos are welcome to show fitment. Please also specify if you have fitted it to a 2020-2022 JA55 model or 2023-2024 JA65 model. If you aren't sure what model you have you can find "JA55" or "JA65" at the beginning of the VIN/frame number or engine number. This detail is important as the shift lever on the JA55 and JA65 models are different shapes and fit differently.

Why change the shift lever? As with most mods: personal preference, function, and ergonomics. I am personally a rider who enjoys the functionality of the "heel-toe" or "seesaw" style shifter on the CT125, but that's not for everyone nor does it fit well with everyone's footwear or riding position. Some suggestions before jumping to replace the shifter are to try rotating it a spline (or a few) to a position that better suits your foot placement, and to try hitting both foot pads on the shifter with the ball of your foot using it as a "toe-toe" shifter rather than a literal "heel-toe" shifter. If that still doesn't suit you, hopefully you'll find a solution in this thread or come up with one to contribute to it.

DIY Shift Lever Modification
Working with the stock part, remove the shift lever from the motorcycle and then reshape it and/or saw off the rear portion as desired.

Honda OEM Accessory08U72-K2E-J10Sold as an OEM accessory in Canada and Japan

This is still a heel-toe shifter similar to stock, but the toe portion folds to reduce crash damage.

Awesome.

My buddy and I went the Webike route. He found a deal where we could buy 2 sets of both the folding gear shift lever and brake levers at a discount, so he ordered them. Cut off the heel shifter. I'll be meeting up tonight with him in the Smokies and if I can get the details on the deal he found, I'll pass it along.

I have been trying to like my heal/toe shifter since I got the bike but am finding the heal portion is too far back and when I do use it I noticed my heal actually is making contact with the shifter bar about an inch ahead of the actual pedal. I have to move my foot back to reach the pedal to shift it which isn't that difficult, but enough so that I just don't do it very often. So I use it when I first put it from neutral to first only. I have thought about shortening the rear portion by cutting it and rewelding so my heal will make contact with the actual pedal but am worried that I will then be making contact with it when I don't want to. Anyone else experience this? And no, I don't have small feet. I wear a size 13.

Here you go.. watch the video starting at 40:46 and you will see the Folding Change Pedal 08U72-K2E-J10 being installed on a JA65. I bought it on webike. Remember that if you use code "vgdeal" when you check out on webike, you will get a 5% discount and I get a few webike points, much appreciated:

@vintagegarage Appreciate the information, but I am looking for a toe only shifter. I already cut of the heel on the stock one without folding tip. Not really looking to spend almost $130 after shipping and tarrifs though.

I had bought the OEM folding pedal for the JA65 and tried to fit it to my JA55, which was when I found out they weren't compatible. Honestly the fold away toe is such a small area of the toe that the fold away bit seems like a novelty. In the real world I don't think it's going to save the pedal from much bending or snagging. IMO the best thing about that OEM accessory folding pedal is that it is painted black.

Does anyone have the parts diagram for the JA65 that shows the part number for the shift lever?
I took mine off to clean it up I am pretty sure I stripped out the bolt reinstalling it. Doh.. I have multi day trip coming up too!! I am kind of panicking.
I think it’s fine? It doesn’t seem like it’s coming off. I’ll need to drill it out to get the bolt out, it’s just spins. Thoughts?

Mine broke on my JA55. It was a very weak bolt. If it stripped on install and has threads on both sides of the shaft then use your own judgement, but I would still feel comfortable riding with it though you'll need to take care of it eventually. Personally I'd recommend going to the hardware store to replace it. I used an ez-out and a drill with a 90 degree adapter to extract the bolt from the side facing the rear of the bike, opposite where the head was previously attached on the fastener.

I didnt take any pics but I drilled it out and got it off. Ran a slightly bigger drill bit through it and used a 1/4-28 and nylon locking nut. It was kind of a pain to get the nut on there, not alot of space to get in there with the kickstand switch in the way.

In the mean time I also recived the replacement OEM lever, rubber nubby, and M6 Stainless, to keep on hand for just in cases.

Of course this all happened leading up to a big multi day trip coming up.. lol.

When my bolt broke (the head broke off) I was able to use a dremel and carefully cut the bolt in half etween the gap on the shift lever, then remove. It is a pain that they break so easily.
Still on the search for a folding tip shift lever for the JA65. I might try to send my factory one in somewhere this fall/winter if a manufacturer wants to use it to prototype one like hammerhead designs.
