For autos the sentiment may be changing as tire shops don't want to lose business from folks who are just following instructions from their vehicles manufacturer. Many newer 4-wheeled vehicles have shifted to having a compressor and tire sealant as standard equipment rather than a spare tire.
I wouldn't blame them for charging more for the extra labor it takes to clean though. Some tires with repair warranties explicitly state that using a tire sealant will void that warranty.

They have increased disposal costs for the tyres - used to be £20 here in UK. That is why I started using the water soluble sealants such as Ultraseal that are not harmful to health. I used to wash the tyre out with a hosepipe and they were happy then to repair the carcass or dispose thereof with no extra charge

ive seen a shop tell a customer to take a side by side wheel elsewhere and just refuse to do it as well when it was loaded up with slime. But, to each their own.

None of the tire shops near me care if you have Slime or anything else in your tires. However all of them in my area will charge extra to repair or replace any ATV or SxS tires, not because of sealant but because they are much harder to break and seat the bead on. Some shops near me won't touch them for that reason. I have six ATV's in my 'fleet' and have never been told to take my ATV tires elsewhere.

Story time: Back in the late 90's when I was a poor College Student trying to balance work, classes, truck payment, GF and ATV riding I rode a Honda ATC250R which had a rear tire which wouldn't hold air for more then a couple of days. I tried every sort of sealer I could find but it had old, worn-out beat-up tires which should have been replaced long before I actually got around to it. Eventually I found that a cocktail of Slime and Fix-A-Flat would keep the proper amount of air (less then 5PSI) in that tire and I forgot about it.

A few months later I scrapped together enough coin to get a new set of tires. On 'Date Night' I took my GF at the time to the local MC Dealer to buy and get my new tires mounted. The girl I was dating at the time was a gear head, the shop was slow and they didn't mind us walking around looking at the different bikes and ATV's they were working-on. As soon as they broke the bead on that ATV tire with the Slime/Fix-A-Flat cocktail in it, it blew Slime all over everything (and everyone) within 15' of the tire machine. The guy working the machine looked like he had come from a swamp, my GF had it in her long hair, it was a mess!

Needless to say no one was happy. I blamed it on the previous owner of ATV. They finished mounting my tires and suggested that next time I buy replacments someplace else. That also ended 'Date Night' as my GF wanted to go home and wash her hair. It took a long time before we could laugh about that one.

All that said I'm a big proponent of Slime. But I don't mix it with any other sort of tire sealants and I let the shop know what's in there. I also don't take my dates with me to get new tires mounted anymore :p

The real moral of the story. Next time the significant other wants to go to Target, add slime to the tires and break the bead with her nearby.

LOL Back when this took place this particular girl and I still lived with our respective parents so I'm not sure her folks would have appreciated me 'helping' her wash the Slime out of her hair :D

The girl I'm with now is very protective of her hair (for good reason, she spends a lot of time and money on it). She also has no interest in 'Date Night' taking place at a tire store LOL

So ,you are a multi tasker , I am SLO , but I had my priorities in perhaps ,in what others would say ,was a different order of importance.. I am getting it right finally. They want to sell you a bike, but don't want to service your machine, before upgrading you? Work on it yourself,or if you find them, PAY THEM ! You married her , didn't you.?

I am a multi-tasker, my life, job and hobbies demand it. Right now I have two projects going-on in my garage; Modernizing the charging system on my '63 Datsun and fabbing a bracket for my Trail which will hold a small Yeti dry bag in-place of the stock tool box. If I like how it turns-out I'll start a thread about it. If I *really* like how it turns-out I'll offer them for sale and if I hate it, well I'll have more scrap metal under my work bench for the next project :p

As far as the 'Slime Girl' I was dating, we eventually went our separate ways. I don't think the Slime incident was a factor in that break-up but who knows? :ROFLMAO:
