Hi, my name is Douglas Smith and being 84 and in good health, I decided that it was time for another Honda Trail. I passed up the 2021's hoping that Honda would add the "dual range transmission" for 2022 but since they didn't, I started shopping. ALL the Florida dealers I contacted wanted $6400.-$7000. OTD after their greedy nature came out as they knew they had a product that was in demand. It looked like I was not going to find one for $5,000.-$5500. OTD that I was willing to pay, but then I saw an ad on Cycle Trader from Honda of Shelby, NC. The price was $3,999.00 + $299. dealer fees and that was all, and they had 5 ! ! When I got there the next day mine was on the showroom floor with my name on it and the other 4 were sold. The TT&L would be paid after I returned to Florida. After the $4,299. for the Trail 125, $125.86 for gas, $105. for one night in a motel, $395. for Florida TT&L came to $4,923.86 which I was happy to pay. I didn't include the cost of eats as we had to eat somewhere anyway. I am so thankful for the greedy dealers in Florida for saving me a LOT of money which I am spending on accessories as we speak, most from Bangkok, Thailand. So far I have added a large top box, windshield, 12 volt accessory socket and a Battery tender lead. Some of the items on the way are a long seat, foot pegs, crash bar, center & front racks, headlight guard, handle bar brace, front fender riser and a spare gas tank for the rear. I am also awaiting a return call from Ox-Brake as to the availability for a left side handle bar brake. In the past, after Honda stopped putting the left hand brake I had to just find the parts on eBay or elsewhere to ad them to many of the old Honda Trails of yesterday. The reason I'm buying all the add-ons at one time is because at my age you may not be able to wail. LOL I will post pictures when my "goodies" get here.

G'day Red Trail. That's some pretty rough pricing out of FL. Yeowch.

There's lots of recommendations in the mods area if you're looking for ideas or help. Sounds like you're off to a great start - a few of us have the physical shop manual if you need us to snap photos of wiring diagrams, torque specs, etc.

If you haven't already budgeted for it, after riding it for a bit, consider if dropping some cash on a new seat is something you'd find useful, maybe a rear suspension upgrade. I found it made a big, big difference in comfort but it isn't as important if you're never riding that far or long.

Thanks for the reply. A new seat was on the top of my list as you suggested. The double seat arrived two days ago and it is on the bike as I type . I had to move my top box back about two inches and it fit great. Now I am waiting for the rear foot pegs and other items I have ordered so I can take my wife (AKA best friend) for a ride so we can see how "Red Trail" does with two riders. All of my "must haves" should be here by the end of July so I will post pictures then. Then I will order all the "like to have" things.

Y’all planning on hitting the rails to trails that run from lake city to palatka, I know most of it isn’t paved yet so they don’t really say anything if you’re on the unpaved parts my wife and I ride them all the time here, we live in Bradford county.
