hitch carrier for 125

I recently purchase one from Canadian Tire (but it seems it is sold under many brands), it consist of steel square hitch tube with aluminium tracks to save weight and rated at 400lbs capacity.

One thing to be noted, the rack needs to be modify so it can be adapted to the CT wheel base. You need to move one aluminium crossbar and one steel anglebar to fit the rear wheel (17inch space needed like for the front wheel space).

Also, as a safety precaution and to prevent hitch pole bending under weight, i inserted a round tubing inside the square tubing about 2/3 of the lenght since the last 1/3 is only supporting the removable loading ramp.

That looks exactly like the Harbor Freight one, even down to the spacing off on the rear wheel. I was thinking the same about moving the bar so it sits correctly.

This hitch carrier only purpose is to carry the CT, i dont think i would trust it with a heavier bike close to 400lbs. But the square tubing felt on the thin side for its purpose, i was seing myself stranded on the side of the highway with my CT laying back ready to lay on the asphalt . So the tube is a safety net, but still i cant complain for the price i paid, anyway i didnt expect the heavy duty construction of a 800$ carrier.

I might add crossbar on both ends bolted underneath and make better/sturdier attach points instead of all the straps concentrated on the middle attachement points. Cheap and effective fix.

Smart to add the tubing insert. I use this type from harbor freight to move my CT around. I moved the one cross bar also. There’s been much debate about the “cheap” carriers but really I’ve not had any troubles with mine. I’ve probably put a thousand miles carrying my bike around.
