Has anyone swapped to a hotter plug? My trail is running a BR6EA from the dealer.

Most of my riding is above 35mph. I’m experiencing some “surging” at 50+ mph full throttle. Will a hotter plug remedy this? I know this bike is not designed for high speeds. Just curious if anyone has noticed an improvement. I’m going to run the hotter plug either way.

I am running the colder plug recommended in the manual, CPR7EA-9 (heat range 7), instead of the stock CPR6EA-9 (heat range 6). I swapped it because there was some pinging while accelerating in low resistance flat spots and descents in the mountains (my CT125 has an aftermarket exhaust, air filter, and larger fuel injector right now), it seems to have addressed that. Downside of a colder plug is that when you're not riding hard it's more prone to fouling, which also means carbon build up in the combustion chamber. Follow Honda's maintenance schedule in the owners manual for inspecting the plug and you should have enough time to catch it before it would become a real issue.

Interesting thread. I'm off into the jungles of Cambodia for 2 weeks with my group ang getting some spares. So I think I'll try a cooler plug as I'll be carrying s fair amount of weight and working the engine hard.

My 3 week old 125 surges now and then...all speeds. The Salesman recommended Premium fuel when I bought it. Tried a tank and eliminated almost all surging. At the 600 mile check I'll ask service if they can "tune" the fuel injection.
