God, I hope your home is going to be OK. When I retired I moved away from a dry tinderbox to a temporal rainforest and while I have never really liked the rain, I have learned to appreciate one less disaster always lurking around the corner.

Thanks for the well wishes.

Evacuation orders remain the same for my town but they have expanded East quite a bit. Now there’s a fire in Orange County about 20 miles away from me (my motel is in Anaheim) and can see the smoke from here. That one shouldn’t be an issue except maybe air quality.

My wife went home to pick up a few more things since we are still not under mandatory evacuation. Feels like a waste of money to evacuate without it being mandatory but the panic that set in when we hit heavy traffic on a narrow forest road at 1:30am when we were trying to leave was not fun.

We’ll go back when the warnings are lifted but the whole mountain is under warnings or orders at this point. It was 7k acres when we left and it is over 23k acres now.

Hope things work out for the better, the haze from the fires in the west has reached as far as Minnesota here and the day is tinted with a slight orange.

I dunno about you, but the life of myself and my loved ones take priority, even if it is costly. And you don't want to end up like how some people in Paradise back during the Camp fire in 2018 ended. That's a hell of a way to die.
