Hi, I'm BaldRider and I spend too much money.

I debated whether to start an intro thread or not but here I am. So, I guess we know which side of the argument won. I currently have a deposit on a 2023 and may put another deposit down at another dealer today. Still haven't decided. I've been trying to get one since they first came out but didn't want to get in line. I really hoped the market would be flooded with cheap used ones by now after people got tired of 9hp.

I live in the San Bernardino Mountains in Southern California, basically walking distance from forest roads where the little 125 will spend a lot of its time.

When the new wheels show up (may call it 'Booger' depending on what the green looks like in person), it will be joining my 2021 Ural Gear-Up and 2018 DCT Goldwing in the stable. I justified the purchase as content for my website and YouTube channel, though neither generates any revenue. I justify a lot of purchases that way.

Anyway, it is good to be here.

Welcome. Money well spent. I'm sure you'll be glad you took the plunge when your new bike arrives. I had one on order for 5 months, got tired of waiting and found one in stock about 100 miles away, and picked it up the next day. That was 2 years and about 4,000 miles ago. I tell people I've never had more fun, with my clothes on, than I've had on my LRD.

I've kept my eye out for another Trail for my wife and have to say it has been slim pickings for quite a while. However, I've seen multiple bikes showing up in several dealers in my area in the last week or two. First that has happened since they came back to the U.S.

I'm a fellow Ural rider. 2007 Retro for me.

You have excellent taste, those are all fun bikes!

Checked out your website and I think you're really going to enjoy the 'stich. I bought an R3 Lite in 2018 and it's one of my favorite pieces of gear. I just had Aerostich do a few repairs on it for the first time this winter, had a pit-zip replaced, a pant leg patched up from abrasion, and some velcro replaced. It was a very positive experience.

I've never heard anyone say anything bad about them except for people who have never bought one. It is a lot like opinions of the reliability of Urals. I haven't had much ability to ride over the winter like I had planned. I only have about 500 miles on the 'stich but is starting to break in.

That's a fine-looking hack right there. Here's mine after just getting home from a week-long trip through Death Valley and Las Vegas last year.

Impressive! You've got that rig loaded down pretty good. Were you riding solo or have a monkey in the sidecar? If you had that much strapped on in addition to stuff in the hack and in the trunk, I'd say you were prepared for anything.

My wife was the monkey. Outside of the spare parts and tools I thought I might need in order to keep us from being stranded in the desert, we over-packed by quite a bit. There were hills we could barely manage 30mph.

Bet that was a great ride. I lived in Victorville for a few years in the mid 80s and a huge regret is I never got to Death Valley. I got to fly over it in the back seat of an F-4 once so that will have to do.

Oh boy. You have come to the WRONG place for that 🤣
I was just telling my wife yesterday how cheap all the accessories are for this bike. Laying the groundwork now for whatever deliveries may be arriving

It isn't entirely a lie. Handlebars for my Goldwing are $800 and suspension is close to $2k. Ural suspension is similar. I'm going to have to restrain myself from farkling up the bike too much. All that added weight wouldn't be a good idea.

"Booger," love it! That new green looks really good from what I've seen.

Have you Ural guys ever been to this site: http://thetimelessride.com ? I used to follow him back in the day. He rode his Ural all around the world.

Ok, but... what if you were replacing the parts with ones that were lighter?

I have an R3 light getting put together for me. I hopped on Southwest to Oakland, and went to their pop up store at a mall in Pleasanton. I figured if I was going to spend that kind of money, I want it to be right the first time. I'm jazzed about getting it. May even have it in time for the Scooter Cannonball. Gray and Hi Viz.

Sizing was pretty good with their submission form. The problem is more with my weight fluctuation than anything. It is going to be a little loose when I lose another 15 pounds. They convinced me to go with the full-weight R3 since I run 80+ on the highway commuting.

I wanted to participate in this year's Scooter Cannonball but I have not yet acquired an eligible machine. I can't do next year's because the wife has a milestone birthday and we are burning vacation for that. There's always 2026.

They only do them every two years, so, you're good for 2025.

I had them give me a little more room in the middle, and the had to take some off above and below the knee.

One compromise I've learned of with the R-3 Lite is that because it lacks an interior liner to act as a barrier for body oils and dirt, it is more prone to Gore-Tex delamination. My suit has a few spots where Aerostich found it no longer passed their high pressurized water test, but it is still waterproof at a lower PSI. The spots aren't areas where water pools, armpits and back, so it hasn't been an issue for me. If I didn't ride in 100°F+ temps each summer, I'd have gone with the regular Roadcrafter 3. For cold weather, aside from normal layering I do attach their "Non-Electric Chest Insulation Pad" which adds a great windstop at the torso. It's nice to never be the person dangerously pulling over under an overpass to throw on rain gear, or peering out a cafe window wondering if the weather's going to blow over. You just put on your space suit and ride through it all. 🧑‍🚀
