yup. not proud.
My 2nd wife had no tools in the house and I didn't have any at the time so any time I needed a screwdriver it was a butter knife, my in-laws still had the old rotating TV antenna and box. One Sunday we were there and the box wasn't working so I checked and the connection was loose. I asked my mother in law for a butter knife to tighten the connection and she looked at me funny and brought me a Phillips screwdriver. My reputation as a son in law suffered that day I'm sure

I can't say I have ever buttered my toast with it, but have cut into many steaks next to the fire.

I don't leave home without it (although I can't say that about the cell phone).

Reminds me of a 4 day canoe trip I went on with 2 friends in Northern Arkansas. The first day, my friends canoe capsized and we lost all the silverware and the coffee pot!:(
Took all 3 of us to make coffee in the morning. Two to hold the paper towel, and one to slowly pour the coffee thru it. The only eating utensil we all had were our camp knives.

I can't find the original post you're quoting… so I'm not sure who the party pooper is that said that…But it seems to be a pretty good collection of guys… And a couple gals... on here. I've certainly gleaned a lot of good information from everybody that's posted on here.

I couldn't agree more! This is one of the few message forums I check regularly and am active on. There are other message forums for MC's which are more active (which I think is what VG was referring to since I see him on one of those sites regularly) however I like the personal feel of this one and am very much looking-forward to meeting some members in-person in a couple of weeks in Arizona!

I went to register... and it told me that the user name was already in use... as its a little unique I decided to try adding a pssword... it worked and here I am. So obviously I sniffed here before, but I cant find any posts.

So first let me introduce myself, I'm Dean, I live mostly in Taiwan, but also in Malaysia and Indonesia. I've been riding bikes for 48 years, and for 2 of those,1982 and 1983), my only transport was a Honda C90, in Palembang, Indonesia. Sat in my garage in Malaysia i have a GS1200, a Bonneville, a KLX250, a EX5 110 (a Malaysian Market Honda C110) and Ranger 150 (Malaysian assembled 150 trail clone). But, here in Taiwan I have no bike. So i had the inkling to get either a CT125 or a C125, partly for nostolgia, and partly for... well, not sure there is any sensible reason to own either, especially when they cost over US$ 5,800 on the road here.

During the two years I owned the C90 in Palembang I did a 6 week, 3000km ride around the Island of Sumatra (yes, its a big island...), didnt have a single mechanical issue with that bike accept som puntures, but in 1982 much of the route was unpaved or very badly paved. The tires were standard, no knoblies fit the C90 in those days, and at least they were not available. The upside is that half of indonesia rode C70 or C90's so every roadside workshop could sort you out in minutes for peanuts.

So, the nostolgia cells in mt brain told me I should buy a C125 or CT125 to relive those days in Palembang. and although Sumatra is bigger, the shape and topography of Taiwan and Sumatra are very similar, both are cigar shaped, both have high mountaing on one side and flat plains on the other. I am on the fence at the moment, because having the EX5 110 in Malaysia does kind of tell me that these bikes wont be much good on the road, but as I dont need speed, and will use it only on back roads, my hope is that at least they woth both be capable of putting a smile on my old face.

Anyway, reading though this forum has given me a lot of food for thought, like the US, there is a lot of competition in the 125cc market, and most are half the price of the C or CT, and frankly would be better as motorcycles, but they wont be a talking point when you stop anywhere, and and know for a fact they probably wouldnt draw me to the garrage just to look at them... I do think the C and CT have a little magic dust in their DNA, and certainly many Asians will have been brought up on them. My wife rode one in the 70's to get to school. My kids have the obligatory scare on the calf muscles where they burned their legs when jumping off their uncles C90 when they were visiting familar...

I cant think of may bikes (maybe Vespa...?) that has tha nostogia attached to them.

I'll let you know if I get one, but irrispective, I do hope to stick arround here to see How you all get on with your CT's.

Thanks for reading.

Dean,

When my wife and I bought matching CT's in 2023, I really didn't need another Honda trail bike. I already had two CT 70s, a CT 110, and a CT90... plus a quad and another street bike. However… The desire outweighed the rational side of my brain and I'm very glad that it did. They're great bikes and lots of fun to customize and run around on. A year and a half later I needed a bike even less. However, the new DAX 125 came out and I got the first one that came in from a nearby dealership my son works at. Again, no regrets. For the amount of money they cost, they bring an awful lot of pleasure and resale is great on them if you ever decide you made a bad decision. My 1983 CT 110 has 2000 miles on it, my 1993 CT 70 has 1500 miles on it. I still grin like a little kid when I get on any of the bikes and most of my kids friends learned how to ride their first motorcycle on one of my CT70s or my CT110. I won't ever put a ton of miles on any of my bikes and I'm ok with that. They don't really serve much practical purpose but they sure made my family and our friends happy riding them. I do not think you will regret buying a Honda CT125 or the C125 if that's what you decide to do; even if it's just to get a bit of a nostalgic pleasure out of it.

It's been a while since I have posted. I am still loving my 2024 Trail, don't want to think about life without it. The bikes purpose seems to have changed from my initial usage ideas, mostly not because of any of the bikes limitations, just been too busy to take the time to get out on the trails and logging roads. Living in rural Alaska I have too many different "toys" that hog my time. A sea boat, a river boat, a 4 wheeler and the Trail, all of which gets crammed into about 7 months where there isn't snow and ice. The little yellow Honda has mostly been my daily transportation to and around town, running errands, and visiting people in my circles. The huge rack which I have 2 stackable and collapsible totes makes it so that I can bring home just about anything other than lumber and plywood. With gas at $5 a gallon here the savings is substantial, but mostly it is the simple pleasure of the ride. It is the closest thing to flying without leaving the ground! My little Honda has 2300 miles now and is doing quite well. Very reliable and no little noises or quirks to speak of. Runs very smooth. So still no regrets!!

I see another Trail 125 in the classifieds today with less than 500 miles on it, joining many others there. I think the Trail 125 will go down in history as the most frequently sold used Honda motorcycle with less than 500 miles on it. What is the reason for that? I know there are many reasons, but what is the most frequent reason. Is it because it is the buyers first 125 motorcycle and they were expecting the power of a Rebel, or is it because they don't fit the motorcycle, or is it money related, or what? What is your best guess?
For me, it started out as nostalgia. Grew up wanting this bike in the 70's and I loved it then and still today. I've ridden dirt bikes and atvs all my life but this is my first street motorcycle. 2 years in and I ride this bike as many days a week that I can... (when it's not raining). Want to take more long trips but soon realized they are a bit longer when you are limited to 55mph. Group riding would be great if there was more small engine bikes and riders in my area. 7500 miles later and I'm loving this bike. I will probably add another bike to the garage... maybe a Royal Enfield Scram 411 for some longer journeys. We need to have another group ride in Florida... it's time.

Three years in an I don’t see myself ever getting rid of mine. I may get another bike for longer distances, but the utility of the CT125 for short trips, errands, etc cannot be beat. I don’t ever see myself getting on a bigger bike for such trips.

I agree. I think we also have a few more central Florida Trail 125 owners than we did back then. I think anyone who hasn't ridden through Goethe Forest would enjoy a ride there. Might get Alvin A to join in with his Dax. The trails there are nice enough that one could ride a Super Cub on the trails there. If dmonkey will fly out here, he can use one of my Trails, a Dax. or a Monkey, his choice. If you can trailer here, you can unload here at the shop, and we can start the ride from here. Alvin A has a good setup for transporting his Dax, and I could bring one in my van if you want to set up a ride closer to you. What would be a good ride that is close to you?

Honda Trail 125 pluses and minuses.
On the plus side
The utility to haul fairly large loads on the big rear rack.
Fuel economy of 125-130 mpg
Doesn't go so fast that I can't get stopped if a large animal steps out of the woods in front of me, such as a moose.
Doesn't go so fast that I push my limits.
Auto clutch, never stalls.
Smooth running engine.
Easy starting.
I know that there are more to add to this list!

The negatives..
There are really only 2 for me
Needs a longer travel suspension (even a couple inches travel would make a difference.
I would like to have seen a 5 speed transmission, which could give it a little lower 1st and a little higher high gear. (this is a small thing really)
