Japan Post Suspends Mail to US

Sharing as this is relevant to Japanese market OEM accessories as well as aftermarket accessories sold out of Japan. Japan Post has temporarily suspended parcel mail of consumer goods to the USA. Some other carriers will still ship to the USA for now, such as DHL, but tariffs will still apply to those imports. This is especially relevant if you buy items from Webike Japan.

My experience with this has been that DHL will notify you by email that there is an import duty/tax payment required before delivery, and they provide instructions to pay it through their website. After they have collected the duty, they pay it to Customs and Border Protection on your behalf. Take care in paying any duties, as there are scams pretending to collect duties.

yup. i just got dinged for $588 on an order i placed with JL exhaust back on may 12th. a ~$1300 order for a set of stainless expansion chambers for my 72 T500. it gets billed when it hit the US after clearing customs. these are actually arriving today. utter bullshit. From the EU. here's the tracking. note it was int he us and cleared customs, then the fee was charged. (it progresses bottom to top) so... $1,888 total. :/ i agree with the method above, i paid it thru UPS directly as it was an option.

Australia Post has also suspended deliveries to the USA. While this is not a big deal for Trail 125 parts, Australian companies like Lambda Motorcycles is a rich source of parts for CT110 bikes.

I have a windshield shipped by Fedex from Japan stuck in Hawaii customs. They are asking for a better description than motorcycle windshield. LOL.

Not happy to hear this, but thank you for putting it in print and posting to see the actual effect.

Malicious compliance. The $800 deminimus came into effect in 2015, have they forgotten what to do already? These countries are in “resist” mode.

That was just the last adjustment to it before this year. Prior to that the exemption had been in place with a threshold of $200 USD since 1993.

It really sucks. I was going to use cmsnl to buy parts for my '78 HaWk II.... But they are based in the netherlands and I am for-sure never going to pay insane duties for simple parts. Screw that.

It's not malicious. At worst it's just.... A sane business decision. No one on either side wants to pay for the import duties/tariffs, so they'll focus on selling their business elsewhere. Where they don't look like they are screwing their customers over. A lot of people forget that tariffs n' whatnot only really affect the end-consumer in the long run. Moreso as the US since its founding as the 13 colonies has been a global trading hub of exports and imports. So tariffs hurt itself more than the country it is placing tariffs on.

So far, 86% of the money gained from the U. S. tariffs have been paid by the U. S. consumer.
Is anyone tired of all this winning yet?
I'm still a fan. I'm willing to be patient and see how this all plays-out. The tax changes on overtime alone will make a large difference in my monthly take-home pay and should easily cover any Tariff I may have to pay. This isn't the first modern President to play the Tariff game; I doubt it'll be the last.

as someone who works at a us mfg, and is directly involved for green-fielding a 200,000 sf facility (thats actually been in the planning stage for 2 years), its typically 5-7 years to get a facility up and running. Just a fact. and thats with an existing business doing well over 7m a month. all our equipment went sky high in cost and its absolutely going to pass down to the consumer, we aren't eating it. sorry. but thats the bare bones reality. right now.. not terrible at the consumer level. but its coming very, very soon across all industries.

I don't doubt that it will; and people will adapt or will make sacrifices. Thankfully I work in Infrastructure. We're busy and don't see an end to that for the next several years. The only exception is a contract I work which is on a large Military base. The DOGE cuts/changes there have limited how much work we're getting there, however planned maintenance and emergency work has remained steady so it remains a profitable contract for us.

As I stated earlier I'm willing to wait it out and see what happens. Personally, I like having someone with a fresh outlook on things in power and while I may not agree with all of his policies and ideas, there have been more then a few which I am excited about.

Just read that the legality of these tariffs is still in the court system, and if it gets overturned, the tariff monies will be refunded TO THE AFFECTED COMPANIES and not to the consumer.

I guess you can tell I’m skeptical.

You have every right to be skeptical. Like I said earlier I don't agree with everything our President has done but I generally like the direction things are heading more so then I did with the previous administration. My industry and those of us who are in it did pretty well last time around and so far this time around looks like it's going to be even more lucrative.
