Was NOT looking for another project, but guy in a local group posted a 1972 Yamaha DS7 for sale, make offer. I waited like 8 hours to reply, nobody made an offer. Guy had it, was in the middle of sorting it, then wife got pregnant and -game over-.
So, i offered, he countered, and I paid his asking price.
If you aren't familiar with these (they only made them one year), its the predecessor to the RD350, same as the R5 (which is a 350) but is 250cc, only real difference is a smaller bore.
Bike has 5600 ish miles on it, and suffered from some rust from NE ohio which is where the guy i got it from purchased it. This resulted int eh rattle can repair job on the paint. But, its not terrible.
Took less than 1 hour to sort it out enough to fire it up. and it sounds great.
Replaced the LH crank seal a few days later and its mechanically good. I wont bore with the details but new tires are going on this weekend (already have them) and test rides on the original Nixon-era (!) yokohamas were really good.
about 1.5 hours after this was taken:
they rarely , ever, are this good sitting as long as it was. hence why i was kind of shocked and in disbelief. Especially since i had intended on it being maybe a parts bike.
old crank seal:
new one installed. IF this one went any worse, can seize the LH cyl.
