Was NOT looking for another project, but guy in a local group posted a 1972 Yamaha DS7 for sale, make offer. I waited like 8 hours to reply, nobody made an offer. Guy had it, was in the middle of sorting it, then wife got pregnant and -game over-.

So, i offered, he countered, and I paid his asking price.

If you aren't familiar with these (they only made them one year), its the predecessor to the RD350, same as the R5 (which is a 350) but is 250cc, only real difference is a smaller bore.

Bike has 5600 ish miles on it, and suffered from some rust from NE ohio which is where the guy i got it from purchased it. This resulted int eh rattle can repair job on the paint. But, its not terrible.

Took less than 1 hour to sort it out enough to fire it up. and it sounds great.

Replaced the LH crank seal a few days later and its mechanically good. I wont bore with the details but new tires are going on this weekend (already have them) and test rides on the original Nixon-era (!) yokohamas were really good.

about 1.5 hours after this was taken:

they rarely , ever, are this good sitting as long as it was. hence why i was kind of shocked and in disbelief. Especially since i had intended on it being maybe a parts bike.

old crank seal:

new one installed. IF this one went any worse, can seize the LH cyl.

Great find. Sounds like music to my ears. Reminded me of my first bike in 69, a little Honda twin 125. The first bite of a bug that continues to infect me.

Thanks,
Ive had a bunch of CB's over the past 30 yrs.... started out on the 750's actually (ive owned...6?) and have had 350's and the 450s.. and currently own a 'new' cb1100. Most 2 stroke guys would scoff at your comment, but i see where you are coming from. But i can see the similarity to, per-say, the cb360T's or even the 175 twins .

this is what its supposed to look like stock and unmolested.(pic below)

Its the same bike as an R5, except with 54mm bores (250cc) vs the 350cc R5 which has a 64mm bore. Of which i own 2 a 72 and a 70. the 70 is by far one of my favorite bikes. (purple white)

my 70:

my 72:

the ds7 is getting new tires today, + a return to the stock airbox, new brakes, etc, the works on service stuff. they are still out there!
below is what its supposed to look like stock. I'll get there, already have a rear fender from my stash of parts and an 'ok' chrome front one.

Badass bikes, M. I saw they are bringing back the CB350, I wonder if they will make it stateside. I’m picking up my Trail tomorrow In Spartanburg. Let’s see if we get any snow. Lol
