Lowering?

Is there a way to lower the height a little? I am very short, 4'10.5" with stubby legs. I would really like to get a Trail and am hoping there is a way to safely lower it a little. When looking at some dual sports, like Yamaha XT250, I had considered actually relacing the hubs into smaller rims, but I think the Trail wheels might already smaller than those on my XR100R. On reason I think the Trail might work better for me than the XT250 is it seems to have a lower center of gravity and I could slide forward off the seat to stand when stopped rather than having to lean the bike so far to one side. Does that sound right?

PS Please don't tell me the Trail is already short enough. It isn't for me for a variety of reasons. I want to be comfortable with my bike.

The Trail has 17" wheels. The next common size down would be 16" and that would only give you 1/2" of lowering. Another thought is to raise the fork sliders up beyond the top of the tripple clamp. One caution, this will change the steering geometry a lot and also reduce the clearance between the fender and horn. All in all, neither approach is going to bring the bike down a whole lot.

Thank you. An inch here, 1/2 an inch there, it all adds up. While it would be lovely to bring the ground 3 inches closer, gaining 2 inches would still be a big help. I'm not keen on sliding the forks much. The smaller wheels idea originally came from someone else as a way to avoid that. Though it was geared to the XT250 or similar sized bike.

A few years ago I decided I wanted my own motorcycle. Had intended a street bike but before getting one I got to go dirt biking. Loved it so much I thought of getting a dual sport, but instead bought my wee dirt bike. Now I'm sure I don't want a bigger bike for dirt riding. Am quite happy & totally shameless looking like a little old lady riding her grandchild's bike. lol I do still want a street bike, though, but one that can go on some easy trails, something good for exploring a bit when we go camping. Actually just bought a bitty toy hauler as another step to this overall goal. Little trailer, small bike, bitty kayak, pint sized paddleboard. My campsite is going to look like life in miniature. 😁

Hey, Kudzu....whatever brings a smile to your face is worth what it cost. Seriously, motorcycles generally are not kind to vertically challenged people. If your solution looks odd to someone, who cares! It's your life to enjoy. As I age I'm down sizing so you'll see me on a pint size machine with an Iron Butt license plate bracket reflecting what happened when I wore a younger man's clothes. Enjoy!

Lowered seat by 1/2 inch and added comfort by swapping the seat. $100.00. Just 2 bolts. 5 minutes
including: inspection, safety gear, mandatory dwarf union tea time, tool selection, setup and tear down.
