Not sure how I missed the year but I put in .8 liters instead of .7.
Should I drain out the extra or just let it burn out? After I put it in I got to thinking that it was .7 and went back to look on line. Sure enough it said for one with filter. Crap.
looking for advice. M in SC are you at the help desk.

Agreed, should be ok. You know the little clear tube that lets you know water got into the airbox area? Keep an eye on that. People have noted that when the oil level is high, that sighting tube or whatever it's called tends to fill up with oil. Just get some needle nosed pliers, undo the clip, empty the sighting tube, and put everything back together.

If you're really concerned, you can either tip the bike on its side and suction a small amount out, or loosen the drain plug, drain a bit out, tighten the plug, and add more oil back in if you drained too much. I'd probably do the second one out of those two. Or drain all of it and "waste" the oil, it's only 0.8L.

EDIT: I mean this sighting tube, but I might have also been emptying number 6:

Just curious what is being used to measure the oil going in? The sump in most engines is large enough that the "safe" range on the dipstick might be larger than the entire sump of the 125.

I think you are saying a “new and unused” container, correct? I think I would like to take some out as it is over the max.
thanks again

Trailfan, it is just a “plastic measuring cup” just like one uses for a tank of round-up or ranchers friend or any other herbicide and/or pesticide. I do not really know the composition of it. We just call it plastic. I’ll try to remember and look if there us one of the symbols on the bottom. Nothing fancy.

No luck on brand. Will contact feed store Monday to see if by any chance they may have a clue. Best I can guess it is probably 18 years old (15-20?). No real identifying markings on outside now. But the hunt will continue. Sorry for the lack of info so far.

I use a set of kitchen scales. 500g of GN4 oil is around 0.6L of oil, and I'm assuming some will stay in the engine and that I want to "creep up" on the amount of oil I actually want. Top and bottom mark is around 100mL difference IIRC, so there's plenty of "give" when it comes to the guess-and-check method.

Drain the oil, place the new oil bottle on a set of kitchen scales. Zero it out. Add oil and keep placing the bottle down on the scales until it says 500g of oil was added, then switch to using the dipstick and creep up on the line. I could do it only using the dipstick, but it's slightly faster this way and I already have a set of scales.

And I also bought this, cut the needle down to the 1st hole, works perfectly for removing oil overfill which I did slightly on my 1st oil change.

We have or had something similar with a twist valve and fill hose of tube but not as large. The picture is nice and large. Like that.

No luck at feed store. He said “it may be from us but I really cant say for certain” but followed up with something about me being bored today. He said to come in, not buy anything or even look at something, but ask about an old plastic cup. I told him people were interested in it for some reason. He laughed and told me to enjoy my day.
so, there ends the info search. As the owl said on the tootsie pop commercial “the world may never know”.
I guess I need to get a newer device similar to the old “plastic measuring cup” for future work.
challenge was accepted but it seems I failed. Sorry about that.
