Just installed the Motolord longer seat and I love it so far. Much more comfortable riding position for me (I'm 5'11"), lets me keep the stock rack, and makes it look a little more motorcycle and less scooter imo.

Looks good. Is the seat sloping forward?
I have been looking at getting one. I am 6’2”. Sitting on the bar when riding.

It appears to be, but I don't notice when sitting on it. The rear is about 1/4" raised off of the rack, and flexes to sit flush when sitting on it. I might just need to adjust the mounting position. If you look at their ebay photos it looks slightly more flush. The very back of it has a slight raise to it that gives it a sort of cafe racer look. I am now sitting on about where the bar would be and its much more comfortable.

I picked up that exact seat about a week or so ago, and as far as looks and material finish, I have nothing but good things to say about it. To me, it changes the look of the Trail in a very positive way. I'm over 6"4" and realized quickly that the "rider triangle" on the Trail with the stock seat simply does not work for me. My femurs are a country mile long and unfortunately for me, the most comfortable place for my butt to be is squarely over where that damn luggage rack grab bar is. Even with this seat, that's still not a very comfortable place to be, but this seat was still the best compromise, with being able to skootch back an inch or two.

I did have some issues with the fit of this seat, though. Did you, Allhatnocattle? After raising and lowering this seat a handful of times, I noticed some of the upholstery staples on the underside digging and scratching into the luggage rack paint pretty significantly (see the photos) on the grab bar.

IMG_4106.JPGIMG_4145.JPG

And even though the seat shipped with a replacement low-profile seat lock bolt (since the OEM bolt on the gas tank prevents the seat from locking closed), it still wouldn't fully seat, and I had to dremel the underside of the seat where the bolt head hits. I also noticed that while the OEM seat has four rubber feet mounted to its underside, which act as slightly shock-absorbing contact points when sitting down, this seat just has hard plastic which leaves gaps in these spots. This kind of bothered me, since it seemed like the only main contact points of the seat when sitting in the front section were the front pivot joint, and the lock itself - Not exactly vibration friendly. So I repurposed the four rubber pads and shaved them down to fit the gaps on this seat. Just wanted everyone to be aware of this if you're considering purchasing.

I actually did just realize it’s rubbed a pretty good hole in the paint of the grab handle. Pretty annoying. How did you fix that? I’m thinking of either just wrapping the handle in some electrical tape or pulling that staple out….

So the lil culprit, that shiny staple with all the red evidence on it in my photo? I did end up popping it out with a flathead screwdriver, which solved the issue...at first. I thought I was done but then it turned out the next staple right underneath it then started rubbing my paint away. So I removed one more and I'm hoping that does the trick. Either way, it was very easy to pop 'em out, and as long as you only need to remove a couple, I don't think the upholstery should get loose.

Like you, I was thinking of using some type of tape too for the future. The seat rubs there pretty tightly and I have a feeling that electrical tape might end up getting moved around and becoming a gooey mess, especially in the coming summer months. In this type of scenario (high-wear, high-friction), I've had a lot of success with UHMW (ultra-high molecular weight) tape. Based on other projects where I've used it, I think it's exactly the kind of tape this problem was made for. The stuff is way more abrasion resistant, and creates a super slippery surface with a really low coefficient of friction.

To be completely honest though, after another 30 minute ride around town last night, I think I might have just convinced myself once and for all to take an angle grinder to that grab bar and remove it entirely. It's the one thing that's keeping me from fully enjoying my riding, even with this seat over it. If I get rid of the bar, the seat should actually "give" under my butt when seated over that area, and plus with this seat, the bar is not doing anything useful anyway.

If I commit to it this weekend, I'll definitely be posting pictures of the project, since I don't think I've seen anyone brave enough to permanently butcher their OEM racks yet!

I cut off the bar on my bike because it hit my tailbone (I'm 6'2") Best mod I have done...

That's great to know, thanks. Just so that I'm prepared, is the tubing of the rack itself solid, underneath the bar? Or will I have two open holes looking down inside rack that will need filling? You don't have any photos of yours by chance, do you?

The 125 is definitely a pig but the swing arms are hollow, I wouldn’t expect the rank to be solid…

Unfortunately, no. Since the rack mounts to the rear shock mounts and frame, it only works in one direction.

The tubing is hollow...I filled the holes with black silicon.

Grind that sucker off and then have it powder coated gloss black. That’s my plan this winter along with a whole new color scheme.

So glad to find out about this seat. I ground off the bar added the small passenger seat and put a cut off piece of "pool noodle" between the two.
Looks like crap but it was the only way I could find to ride it without a bruised tail bone. I ordered this long seat yesterday evening from Auto7star on ebay for $229.89.
I would have rather gone with beezdeals because I have had good luck with them, but it was out of stock. It must be a popular upgrade and many in the same boat as us.
Also thanks to "Lazy dog productions" on Youtube where I found that it existed.

From all the pictures, it almost looks as if the Motolord seat sits at a downward slope. I wonder if this is a problem for anyone. Does it make you feel like you’re sitting at an angle? It seems like this would cause your butt to want to slide forward. Maybe I’m wrong.

I have one of those seats, and at first i loved it being 6'4" but over a month or so i could feel that bar, and as the seat started to "give" it was uncomfortable, and the cover they used made me slip on a hard braking.... just me i guess??
anyways i should have cut the bar off right away.
i do alot of fiberglass work in my job so ive been working on a mold to make a slightly longer / higher seat bucket.
sometimes you just have to make what works for you.
