MotoLord Long Seat

So I made the mistake of ordering the Motolord seat AND the rack and bag for the middle. They do not fit together. Oh well. That's what I get for blowing my whole tax refund at once. Still need to remove the luggage bar and insert foam. Definitely sits better than what I had above.

Just in case you haven't seen it, there are drainage holes under the luggage rack bars. Finally got around to doing the luggage bar delete and dremeled out the plastic from the Motorlord seat. I stuffed that handle bar foam pad I was using on the luggage rack bar before, see above, into the space that was left and it fit perfectly. I didn't even end up using the fiberglass kit I had. It rides so so much nicer, I can actually ride for more than 15 mins without developing a sore bum.

I also want to add that the little red Honda bag in that space has turned out to work really nicely and really looks pretty good, all things considered. I have grown to love the set up. Also, I don't think most people look at it as something to steal something out of. It kinda tricks the eyes.

Angle grinder. Used a file to smooth it a bit to make sure it wouldn't cut anything after. Then hit it with a metal primer rattle can.

That's great to know, thanks. Just so that I'm prepared, is the tubing of the rack itself solid, underneath the bar? Or will I have two open holes looking down inside rack that will need filling? You don't have any photos of yours by chance, do you?

I filled the holes with silicone

I just added the shorter MotoLord seat. It is better than stock. My butt was always hitting the red handle. I like your long seat!

Yes, i did get it. The weather here has been horrid (cold or rainy), so no real test. But feels better, and cradles more. Def an improvement.

Where did you get the added rubber disks?? and where is the insulation pipe? I have a similar problem with the long seat that I got. I ended up cutting up a husky took mat and making it work. However, it is still a bit squishy. I am curious if yours feels super secure.

So the lil culprit, that shiny staple with all the red evidence on it in my photo? I did end up popping it out with a flathead screwdriver, which solved the issue...at first. I thought I was done but then it turned out the next staple right underneath it then started rubbing my paint away. So I removed one more and I'm hoping that does the trick. Either way, it was very easy to pop 'em out, and as long as you only need to remove a couple, I don't think the upholstery should get loose.

Like you, I was thinking of using some type of tape too for the future. The seat rubs there pretty tightly and I have a feeling that electrical tape might end up getting moved around and becoming a gooey mess, especially in the coming summer months. In this type of scenario (high-wear, high-friction), I've had a lot of success with UHMW (ultra-high molecular weight) tape. Based on other projects where I've used it, I think it's exactly the kind of tape this problem was made for. The stuff is way more abrasion resistant, and creates a super slippery surface with a really low coefficient of friction.

To be completely honest though, after another 30 minute ride around town last night, I think I might have just convinced myself once and for all to take an angle grinder to that grab bar and remove it entirely. It's the one thing that's keeping me from fully enjoying my riding, even with this seat over it. If I get rid of the bar, the seat should actually "give" under my butt when seated over that area, and plus with this seat, the bar is not doing anything useful anyway.

If I commit to it this weekend, I'll definitely be posting pictures of the project, since I don't think I've seen anyone brave enough to permanently butcher their OEM racks yet!

We'll be watching to see if it's a good improvement.

Is the seat pan for the PM racing seat the same as the Motolordd? Meaning does it still have the thin foam over the hump that everyone is trying to fix?
