If you decide to start selling a better seat bucket that I could take to a local upholster, sign me up. I don’t care for any of the current seats that are on the market.
id be happy to.
its going to be a while, working on the plug now, it's going to be just a bit longer than the original will cover where the bar is on the back.
but nice thing about glass, you can always re work it to fit your needs.

Hay squeaks, when you get that mold made, give us a peak If you would Sir. I’m sure you could sell a bunch to the big boys here. Any upholstery shop could cove it once you have the pan.

After using this seat for a couple months, I decided to cut the rear rack grab bar off hoping that it would soften up that spot under this long seat and to be completely honest, I'm disappointed in how little it changed anything...and now I have a cut-up OEM rack for nothing.

The problem that I'm realizing is that even with this Motolord seat, the hardness under the seat right where my tail bone is was NOT from metal bar anymore (since it's gone), but from the mold of the seat itself which is shaped AROUND the bar. The design basically leaves almost no padding in the area directly above the bar:

Since I've already chopped the grab bar off, this got me thinking about modifying the seat bucket mold as well. The only way to make this seat more comfortable now would be to cut out the part of the mold that is shaped around the garb bar and lower it (with fiberglass sheets?) while stuffing additional padding in there - Basically, increase the padding from 1/2" to 1.5 or 2"
This is the area I'm talking about:

While I know how to turn a wrench, I have nearly zero experience working with fiberglass and this kind of project, so the only thing holding me back is the prospect of completely ruining this seat and being out a couple hundred bucks and right back to square one with the oem seat. Any tips or ideas would be welcome!

Cut out the elevated part with a dremel and just fill it with good foam, maybe some gorilla tape? The rack should support the weight and the foam. Then see what needs to be improved before you go whole hog (again 😉)!

good luck

So glad to find out about this seat. I ground off the bar added the small passenger seat and put a cut off piece of "pool noodle" between the two.
Looks like crap but it was the only way I could find to ride it without a bruised tail bone. I ordered this long seat yesterday evening from Auto7star on ebay for $229.89.
I would have rather gone with beezdeals because I have had good luck with them, but it was out of stock. It must be a popular upgrade and many in the same boat as us.
Also thanks to "Lazy dog productions" on Youtube where I found that it existed.
Got the seat yesterday. And on the first test ride I found I was no better off than with the stock seat. The padding over the top of the grab bar is so thin as the seat pan is molded to be above it. A Dremel tool and foam from an old seat took care of the problem. Now it's much better!!!

At least at this point I have found fiber glassing over the hole is not an issue. I'll see what a few hundred miles brings. A simple fiber glass kit can be found at any auto parts store

Here is another picture. I am really a hack when trying to do modifications to seats but this one was easy and turned out really well I thought.

i found out the same thing, the plastic base is very thin, and just a lot of foam to make it flat.
too bad we had to spend 200 bucks to find out

Thanks Trvlnman! That's literally the exact thing I was planning to do. Now I just need to pick up some foam and I have my project for the weekend.

Sooooo, I bit the bullet and cut the plastic hump out of the seat. Stopper's photo in a previous post explains the issue perfectly. You get no relief from the long seat until you cut the hump out.
StopperSeat.jpg
I cut out about 1 1/2 inches off of the hump, leaving about half of the plastic seat base around it for structural support. I used a multi-tool and it cut like butter. The hump is glued to the padding so it takes a bit of tugging/shaving to get it out. The padding above the hump is maybe 3/8" thick.
I shoved my stack of padding shown in earlier post into the gap. Fits perfect. I scooted forward and backward along the seat, trying to see where the insert is and I couldn't feel it. Extremely happy with this fix for the price of the mat.

Im 6’0” with 41 miles on the bike. It only took 41 miles til I hit a small pothole and…. BAM! Drilled my tailbone on the rear handle. It didn’t feel good. Still sore and I’ve been done riding about an hour. From the sounds of things I may just need to remove the rear rack entirely and get the seat that stretches over the rear fender.

You can add one of these (or a pool noodle) over the rack grab rail if you are still using the stock seat.

i found the same issue with the moto lord, and the seat i made is still very nice after 100s of miles now.
but for those who want to glass to the plastic, we use the G fles epoxy from west system. it dose a good job, even on plastic tanks.
