Short version of a long story. By a fluke I had the opportunity to visit a friend at our local dealership which happened to have all of the bikes I had been considering on the floor, a XR150L, TW200, XT250, KLX230S and the Trail 125. I sat on all of them, wiggled a bit to feel the weight and balance and went home thankful for the visit. Bear in mind that I have a few years on you and at the time had six bikes in my stable with the impetus to downsize. Despite my what I thought my desires would be it was the TW and the Trail that felt the best. Two days later I went back and threw a leg over both bikes. Obviously I bought the Trail or I wouldn't be here. The light weight, rack, ease of throwing a leg over it and the practical simplicity of maintenance from my experience with three Groms won. I can't think of a better bike for someone in your situation other than the perhaps the heavier TW200. Despite any other motorcycles one has, every serious motorcyclist should have a Grom, Monkey or Trail in their stable. If you're into exploring dirt and back roads the Trail is it. Even if you get into other bikes the Trail's practicality and fun factor render it as a keeper.
