Yep, I hear you, we get forgot, when I got my trail, it was only the second one on Oahu!

If it's going on the rack why not use a Pelican type box? You can lock it if needed. Harbor Freight Apache boxes are pretty good if they have size that suits your needs.

Some people, myself included use the Kuryakyn momentum roamer tail bag it's 17x15 and fits perfectly.

Waterproof? Hmmm maybe not completely but pretty good.
