Oil spinner cleanout

Having a problem getting the cover off. pegs are out of way, cover starts to slide out but feels like something is holding it ten mm out. No damn vids on this job that i can find. everything is groms or monkey with different clutch. Do I have unscrew auto clutch adjuster?

Gasket broke in two places. What a shitty design. Bit of a pain to do. Now its down for ten days while the part comes in. It was pretty clean too at 1000 miles. figure i'm only doing this every 10,000. lol.

For what it's worth, the maintenance schedule in the owners manual (page 39) lists cleaning the Engine Oil Strainer Screen & Engine Oil Centrifugal Filter at 8,000 mile intervals.

This video covers the job on a Honda Wave with the same automatic clutch as our bike, unfortunately you can't just put a block under the wheels and put the bike on the side stand to get the lean angle you need to close it back up since side stand and pegs have to be pulled off on our bike, so there's some discussion of how to win the fight against gravity in closing the case here:
I ended up turning the bars to the right and laying mine with the left bar end into a Rubbermaid garden tub full of dirt, other suggestions in that thread are to do the same with a milk crate, stool, or use straps to hold the bike at the right lean angle.

Isn't that amazing ? .

This laying over to properly re assemble the AutoClutch linkage hasn't changed since 1957 .

Gotta be careful the clutch pedal doesn't touch anything else it'll all be one spline off .

Got the gasket in , and put it all back together. It takes a few try's to the insides to line up. Pain in ass really. Seems to be shifting a little weird. Do you have to adjust the auto clutch every time you do the spinner cleanout?

I needed to adjust mine after taking the clutch cover off. Adjusting the automatic clutch is very quick and easy, requires a 14mm wrench and screwdriver. Make sure you back the nut far enough off that when you spin the adjuster it doesn't thread itself tight during the adjustment.
I watched this video, but basically you loosen the nut, turn the adjuster clockwise until there's the slightest resistance, turn it counter-clockwise until there's the slightest resistance, then turn it back clockwise 1/8th turn, hold the adjuster in place with screwdriver while tightening the nut back down.


Also a tip for the case gaskets, if you put a thin coat of oil on the gasket and wipe it off before sealing the case, it will still hold its seal properly without leaking and the next time you take it apart the gasket is less likely to be stuck or tear when taking it apart. Makes them more reusable, or just eliminates clean-up scraping if you are going to replace them anyways.

I have read that its not a bad idea to upgrade the oil pump to a heavy duty model while you are doing this. Videos indicate not that hard of a job?
great idea to do if possible. Might has well upgrade if you have go through all the trouble.

I'd be interested to hear more about that. I think most of the high flow oil pumps have a negative impact on performance, so might not be worth it unless your engine needs it (e.g. if you have a big bore kit)

can't too much hp to move 30% more oil.

let's be clear here. it's NOT the same motor as the old CT ones. similar design but not the same. it's like saying my 2014 cb1100 is the same motor as an 83 1100f. related but different in many ways. that being said, there's zero downside result to a higher volume oil pump. it's such a common mod on the other bikes w the grom based motor (which is what it is) and there has been zero reports of losing hp on the groms or monkeys. and there's even hundreds of dyno runs done on them with every level of tune from stock to 30+ hp ones. .02
