Hello all! Just found the forum and looking forward to reading and learning!

I never buy a bike new, and I have found one used reasonably close. I am hoping to get it down to $3000-$3500. Let's say they settle for my offer of $3500, does that sound like a good deal? Basically brand new, ~300 miles, warranty until July 2022 and close enough to home.

Ideally I would like to spend around $2500, but I don't see these bikes dipping down that low for a few years. What does everybody think?

Given that these are so hard to come by and many dealers are selling them at $5000+ out the door new, I’d say that if you can find one for $3500 with 300 miles, you are in good shape. I am seeing 40 year old CT70’s and CT90’s for $3000+.

I just paid $5000 cash for one new; if I could buy one with 300 miles for $3500, it would be in my garage already - assuming it was in like new condition.

The only used one I've seen for sale that far below MSRP was one that had been dropped pretty bad and needed damaged parts, including the foot peg assembly, replaced. If you can get a clean one used below MSRP that alone can be considered a deal given the low supply and high demand. Until production numbers are high for this bike, or Honda releases a newer model year with significant changes (I highly doubt they will in the next few years), the used cost on these isn't going to be far off from MSRP. Many of the used ones are even being listed above MSRP, either knowing that people might be willing to pay over MSRP to skip a waitlist, or because they're loaded up with mods that the new owner may or may not even be interested in.

That is the big thing, imo…. The place I bought mine from said that in the time between when I put a deposit on and when I bought it - over a month due to the stop sell - they could have sold the bike to 12 other people. Including a few guys who offered to put a deposit down in case I backed out. Maybe that is a bit of an exaggeration, but I have been looking at Motohunt and some local sites, and aside from one bike in NJ, Virginia is the closest CT125 I have seen listed. And that is 1,200 miles away.

I have been literally looking for any bikes within 1500 mi of where I live in Seattle and finding zero. I check literally every day. $5000 for a used bike & they'll ship it would likely sell to anyone west of Utah. I'm waitlisted far away from where I live because the local dealers won't take money due to the sheer number of orders.

I would not pay more than $3,500.00 for a used bike. Unless.....they have added a thousand in real necessary parts you want.
In Illinois we have the one benefit of only $25.00 in sales tax on used bikes person to person. Not bought thru a dealer.
I highly recommend you not jump because once the new bikes flow into the country you'll have MSRP and can work a deal from a dealer.
That's my opinion, I have two on order for May 2022.

When I got my CT125 last March I sold my 1970 CT70KO for $4000,00. There was a new CT125 on Craigslist last month for $6000. I doubt if he sold it though. In California if someone was selling a CT125 with 300 miles they could probably get close to $5000.00 and it'd probably sell pretty quick.

There have been a few dealer listings on Motohunt that popped up with a $5800 price tag (not sure if that included dealer costs), and a few that once you added dealer charges it would easily go into the $6000 range. Those listings aren't on the site anymore so I can only assume they were sold. A low mileage CT125 at near new going for $6k seems pretty plausible.

That isn’t so outlandish. If you want one. My context is seeing cars and trucks selling for thousands over sticker right now, low inventories, etc. Time is money, and if someone wants one now, they’ll pay.

Yeah, when I sold my Harley, the $2,500 in upgrades got me nothing because it’s expected that you upgrade the intake, pipes, and ECU.

Depending on the bike, it might make it worth less(due to perceived abuse or wear and tear).

I think there is an extremely niche possibility with the CT125 that a custom seat IN ADDITION to the stock seat being sold with the bike can add value. Like one of those gel seats from Thailand. It's something you could easily sell in the USA for more than Thailand cost price because of lack of available options. I've actually got it on my wishlist of things to look for if I ever find myself or a friend heading to Thailand soon.

For everything else, I think I'd probably pay less than retail, and I'd frown upon anything that makes me work for having to verify that it was done right, like inspecting the electrical system modifications.

in my experience, any accessory that might actually add value will be worth resell about 50% of current cost, maybe, but usually only if the original part is also included. I've seen this in particular w seats with the concours guys.

The connies are generally a pretty comfortable bike even from the start though. Flying couch is what I've heard, the only distinction from the FJR being that the older C14's used to come with heated seats if you get my drift ;). The other part is that aftermarket seats are readily available in the USA.

Because neither of those apply in the USA for the CT125, it's a seller's market. It's also worth pointing out that you're talking about $150 or so here for the brand new custom seat. "$150, you can easily flip it if you don't like it, you also have the original seat, and it won't hurt your ass like crazy" is like... chump change if it works. I wouldn't bat an eyelid at that.

As for frame mounts, luggage racks, etc. yeah, 0-50% is what I'd expect, even in a seller's market, because those things are generally pretty personal and the bike is highly enjoyable even without them.

I agree for the most part. But, look at what used aftermarket seats on here are selling for, as an example. just my .02. In the grom world, which si much closer by comparison, i see people asking ridiculous amounts for moded groms and not usually getting anywhere close to the asking price.

speakign of FJR's.. saw my buddy Dave yesterday that has one (1300) fully kitted out with pretty much every high dollar farkle you can add to it. he's asking $5600 and it has 16K on it. It may be a sellers market, but its also a VERY narrow market.

I too have a buddy named Dave on a FJR. He's old, is the loudest snorer I've ever had to bunk near, and has tons of farkles too. Must be something about Dave's on FJRs that make them a blast to hang out with.

RE: the grom - the grom upgrades are... weird. The bike is already really good. The seat is considered by most riders to be excellent. It's really hard to say that there's a comparable bike because the field of bikes that you 1) ride sitting down and 2) have an enormously uncomfortable seat is pretty narrow.

If anything, it's probably closest to a bicycle, and I'll tell you - I have bought quite a few bike saddles in the $200+ range, and any long distance bicyclists will happily swap out their saddle and consider that "necessary overhead".
