Took the main bots of bodywork off today wanted to dig around in there, see how different from the grom everything was (a lot). also wanted to look at the ECM see if it was compatible with aftermarket grom ECMs. again, no. which is sort of surprising. But ok. Also waxed all the bodywork off the bike, and ran a power connection (battery tender style) up and under the seat. can use for anything in the back crate (rack) as well.

and just got familiar with how everything comes apart.

some pics for those that might want to see whats actually under there.

big silver thing is reg/rectifier. ecm is behind battery box. abs module is below and behind battery box.

ecm plug, abs module,

rear fender slid back and rear brake master, pipe swung out.

shows washers rear rack mounts cradle in. (between 2 washers inboard of shock). right shock bolt head size: 19mm. left: 17mm

how i ran wire off battery. used 5mm brass eyelet connector and 4mm bullets from vintage connections to make '+' extension wire. slips behind battery box cover. grounded '-' side on main frame ground on RH side of bike (mass of green connectors)

and ecm differences if anyone is curious:

Well done. I had the left side off to wire lights and install a pigtail. I need to get the tail light off, to see if there is room for BackOff XP tail light flasher. I'd suspect there isn't.

to answer the taillight thing. pull rack off. then you have to take the m6 bolt out from under the fender off. (its the one by itself) then snap/pop the top of the tail light housing off. I'm not sure how big this flasher is but it may be able to squeeze in there. its a PIA to get off but not terrible. theres -some- room in there. if you want to pull the whole housing off, theres 2 screws under the cover (8mm head) that need to come up. and the 2 allens on the side as well.

So your added two prong battery connector is used to maintain the battery and when out and about to pull power from for an electrical accessory? Where did you bring the two prong connector out to? Phone charging for navigation is my main interest so maybe up towards the ignition key and maybe find correct plug to go into capped rubber plug next to key? From a previous post the ancillary plug for the phone charger is missing from headlight wiring bundle in the US trail 125s?

Yes, i pulled it up through the RH cowl behind the tank between the rear cowling piece and the tank, and it sits under the seat. I can now lift seat and pull cable out into the rack ( i have a collapsible milk crate mounted on rack) where i can charge something if need be, with the key off, while riding or sitting. Also, allows me to charge battery on bike if need be.

I also added a usb charger where you are describing as well. that one is powered off the harness in the headlight bucket. the large 2 prong grey connector, I tapped into that to get key power for the usb port by the ram mount i added. (did that last week) that seems to be pretty common.

Interesting place for a RAM ball. I like it. You can never have enough RAM balls. So useful.

Did you have to loosen the exhaust pipe at the header, to get it to pivot out of the way like that. I want to take it all apart myself.

yes. 2 8mm studs w 12mm hex nuts. advice: when putting it back on, take steel sleeve out of back mount bushing at shock. put rubber bushing back over stud, then slide steel sleeve in. much easier.

M - I’m going to be swaping out my rear rack soon - will I need to take the exhaust off the bolt to do that, or can I just loosen all the nuts (the one at the end and the one between the muffler and shock) to get the space to do that?

you can loosen the stock bolts and slip it out, but getting a wrench on the lh side will be tricky. but can be done

Looks like it would be, but I am taking the snorkel off first, so maybe that will help?

it will for sure. you'll need to take up the gap left by the rack mounting ears with a washer or the like I would think
