Hi all, long-time lurker, first-time poster here. I'm excited to be a part of the group! Although I'm still in the shopping stage of Trail 125 ownership!

Walked into my local dealer in So.Cal. yesterday expecting to just put my name on a waiting list and to my surprise they had a Trail 125 on the floor ready to go! I had the Salesman do a work-up to get me an OTD price, and I began regretting not bringing my P/U truck with me. OTD Price was $6,300 which from following this site I knew was high, though most things in So.Cal. are higher-priced then other places. I offered $6K cash, said I could have the $$ (and a truck with an open bed) in 30 minutes. Salesman said he wasn't moving off the price as he knew he could sell it in 24 hours to someone else at that price.

I hate walking on a deal, however as much as I 'want' a new Trail (and have a ride coming-up which it would be perfect for) I just wasn't willing to pay that much of a premium for one.

I'm going to check some other dealers local to me, I'm okay with waiting or traveling out of state if need-be.

Which dealer? I’ve called most dealers near me in So Cal and they’re either booked for waiting list or doing first come first serve.

Divide the difference over 20 years or know you can get it back when you resell it. Factor in the fun you are missing this summer!!!
A guy in my town sold his used for that much…

Thanks guys for reinforcing my gut instinct that $6,300 was way too much! I'll be honest, I almost caved and did the deal, but I'm glad I didn't. I'm going to speak with some other local dealers, see what the wait is expected to be. If I get inpatient I'm not opposed to buying out-of-state and having one shipped to me if need be. I'm not in a huge rush as I have another Dual-Sport I ride (TW200) so I can still have some fun out on the trails this summer!

Just got quoted $6600+ by a dealership here in Phoenix! Another rural dealer wanted $7500! What?!?

I then worked the phones and called another shop in the Phoenix area and was quoted $5500 over the phone. We’ll see if that price says the same out the door or not…

Price gouging at its finest!

One of my deposits arrived today and I was very excited until they gave me the OTD price. $6800+!!
They gave me this breakdown:

3999 MSRP
300 freight
1597 to build
304 in registration
615$ in tax

I'd call it more than 90% built. They uncrate the bike, install mirrors, connect battery, remove plastic wrap from seat, add gas to the tank, air up tires the rest of the way, and are supposed to perform a general inspection.

There have been, and currently are, low mileage used bikes listed on the classifieds of this forum with the no-longer-new price hit already factored in. If I hadn't already bought mine new when they were rarer than hens' teeth, but was looking to buy now, personally I'd be very happy with paying closer to MSRP + transport to get a nice used one.

I’d definitely do a used bike if it was closer to me but everything is across the country.
I’m considering walking because the salesman is now rushing me to get to the dealership. I told him yesterday I’d get back to him as I have work, previous engagements, they’re over an hour away (more with traffic), and they close early on weekends. He said his boss is rushing him to get the bike out the door cause it’s a hot item. Is this normal?

That's about $1,000 too high. I'm glad you didn't pay the greedy guy. He probably went through several names on his waiting list with that price.

I just paid $4,784 out the door for a 2022 in Oklahoma. Tax, tag, and title is paid after the fact at the DMV and should run about $250. So about $5k ready to ride.
