Just got quoted $5037 out the door here in Connecticut. Seemed pretty reasonable to me considering what I've seen posted in this thread.

Best option for finding a bike seems to be simply calling/emailing around to dealers directly. I've found the aggregate in-stock websites to be more or less useless for finding bikes in my area. Dealer by me in Connecticut emailed me this morning to say that they have finally fulfilled all of their deposits, and that if I deposit now I'll be first in line. Called in right away, and put my deposit in. Been in contact with 10+ dealers in and out of state, and this is the first time there hasn't been a decent line of deposits ahead of me.

Apparently Honda has told this dealer that they "Might be able to order more Trails in August or September". Dealer let me know IF they are able to order at that time then I should expect the bike in late fall or Winter, IF. Would be a bummer to get it in the off-season, but as long as it's above freezing I'll probably still spin it around town.

5086 OTD in Orange TX. This included TX sales tax, state paperwork fees, honda fees, assembly (250), and dealer paperwork charge (125). Let's not talk about the gas required to get a pickup 600 miles to and from...

It was pouring on and off, but I was still able to get in a brief spin before loading it up.

GP SPORTS, San Jose, CA had 4 arrive in the past couple of weeks, all allocated to people already on the waiting list. $3999 MSRP, $1000 markup, $300 freight, $675 dealer prep, $552 sales tax, $210 registration fees, $85 doc fees, $3.50 California tire fee. $6825 OTD. Price seems to be firm with no room for negotiation.

Finally got mine a few weeks ago from Glendale Honda in So Cal. OTD price was $5,865. Still pricey but better than the other place I had a deposit. They wanted $6800.

So I just started looking seriously this week it will be my first "motorcycle". I'm a mountain biker but not getting out like I used too and crave some two wheel fun. I'm in NM and found several dealers in Colorado and Arizona that had some in stock. Most seemed to be around 5200-6k out the door. I called a semi local dealer two hours away which just got three in. They said 5500 out the door but I balked and said I could get it in AZ for 5200 so they came back with 5350 OTD. I think I'm going to do it bummed I just missed out on one in Colorado that was around 4700.
Where in NM did you find one? I'm in Ruidoso, none in Las Cruces and none showed up when I did a state wide search. Also could not find any in Colorado. Snowflake, AZ ($8k) and OK City ($6500) were the closest.

Something that is just utterly insane to me is it cost me like... $650 to get it shipped from Vegas to Washington, and I probably could have gone lower. Like it costs some money to ship it across the country, but not $3,000.

Mine was $420. I was ok with paying that provided they did a good job, and they did a good job except maybe they skimped a little on that first tank of fuel... however my documentation fees were much higher, so the overall cost of those two line items evens out to be the same. I'm not mad though, I've had no problems at all. The classic Honda experience of you meet the nicest people on a Honda, but maybe not at the dealership 😂

I just think: "Let's see, I paid less than $5000 for this thing. My brother in Cali paid almost $7k for his (theoretically). I'm gonna go surf BeezDeals and WeBike and treat myself to a $2000 shopping spree!"

Zia PowerSports in Clovis. They had one left a few weeks ago but I assume it’s spoken for now but doesn’t hurt to try. I could possibly be interested in selling mine because I really want a CRF 300 but would like to keep the Trail too. Just not sure the wife would go for that ha ha. Let me know and I’ll think it over.

I concur. Last February I had an old truck shipped to me in So.Cal, from Kansas (~1,500 miles) and it cost $1,500, which was the going rate with the couple of shippers I checked with (open transport, running and driving car. Enclosed transport and a non-running vehicle cost a lot more). Just for curiosity I asked the Broker I used if a bike would be cheaper and was told generally yes; it was about .50c a mile at the time, however this was right before fuel prices started going crazy so things may be different now. Living near a metropolitan area helps too as if the Driver has to go out of his way, it's going to cost you. In my case I am near a couple of major Freeways and an Interstate and I happened to be right in between two large cities where the Driver was dropping-off so it was on his way. Supposedly had that not been the case, again the price would have been higher.

As an aside, how much fun is it waiting for your shipped vehicle to arrive? For me it was like Christmas as an adult. Especially once I knew the vehcile was actually in-transit to me. I'd considered sending the guy I bought the truck from one of the GPS Trackers I use so I could track it's progress to me, but didn't have time as a Shipper was able to pick it up sooner then I'd expected.

I'd call it more than 90% built. They uncrate the bike, install mirrors, connect battery, remove plastic wrap from seat, add gas to the tank, air up tires the rest of the way, and are supposed to perform a general inspection.

There have been, and currently are, low mileage used bikes listed on the classifieds of this forum with the no-longer-new price hit already factored in. If I hadn't already bought mine new when they were rarer than hens' teeth, but was looking to buy now, personally I'd be very happy with paying closer to MSRP + transport to get a nice used one.
i just picked up a used one with under 1k miles for $4k flat.
