Nothing beats picking a random town, setting the gps to the windiest roads (and of course skipping any highways), and heading off. This is just what I did on Saturday. I headed up the pacific highway from Sydney to a small seaside town called Brooklyn, NSW. It must have had some of the freshest fish and chips I've ever had and whilst I am no michelin star chef, I do think I am a backyard connoisseur of beer and beer battered fish n' chips.
Whilst writing this I can't help but think how this bike has re-sparked my sense of adventure, or more importantly reframe what 'adventure' means. An adventure doesn't need to be these grand 'across the world' endeavours and I think the charm of the 125 allows for everyday rides to become mini adventures. I won't lie to you, It's taken me a little while to change my perspective, where being on the "younger" side and having my instagram page filled with all these ultra-amazing and super over-the-top insta-perfect adventures, made me come to the point where I felt desensitised by what an adventure was and how to have one myself. I also couldn't help but compare my adventures to others, where feelings of inadequacy and inferiority loomed over. However, when on this bike I forget all that and I just ride...Whether it be shifting up ALL the gears to reach a speed of 60 kph or simply not having to be anywhere in a hurry considering that the trial really can't be anywhere in a jiffy, maybe 3 or 4 jiffy's. The bike makes me have adventures and I love how I don't have to look far to have one. I don't take the bike seriously and I don't think it should be taken seriously, and this has translated into the most unexpected moments of my riding career thus far
These little trips are slowly making me reframe what an adventure means to me and what it can be. I had an absolute blast and I can't wait to be out on the road again, setting off soon on another impromptu random adventure. Sometimes the least expected adventures end up being the best and most memorable and I think that this bike, dearly named Princess Fiona after the one and only beloved Shrek's better half, makes this ode come true.
Thanks for listening to my rambles!
