Anybody know the size of scew I need to mount a crate? I see the cargo extender mounts into those holes and I've consider buying one but the online retailer doesn't specify the size of screws included.

I had to go with longer bolts for my milk crate. I used four rubber round furniture cups which I drilled holes through to keep the crate from rubbing on the rack.

I like that idea. Probably 2 1/2" bolts in that case?

In case someons comes to this site looking for the thread size of the hole like I did. It is a M6 x1.0 However if you purchase that size bolt it may not fit because the paint at the begining of the threads is thick. So it is best to retap the holes if you can. Do not cross thread them.

To avoid removing material you can run a thread chaser or just lubricate a bolt and put it through the paint, less risk than running a tap through the already-tapped holes.

run a tap through it. if you remove material, you went in crooked of the hole wasn't tapped correctly in the 1st place. .02

Doesn't have to go in crooked to remove material, the paint can block it from matching the start of the original threads. They'll both work, one is just a safer tool for the job.

after 20+ years of machining experience and general fab work, i have to think that your splitting some serious hairs that don't really exist, I've never ever ever ever had that happen even after chasing powder-coated holes. :ROFLMAO: run a tap though it. its fine. Get an M6x1 tap, run it though.
