Questions for the experienced Smokey MNT 500 Riders.
My son and I are planning on riding the Smokey MNT 500 the last week in September. We are scheduled for 3 days starting at Telico Plains going counter-clockwise to TwoWheelsofSuches then on to Robinsville, NC.
We will be riding Honda CT125’s with knobby tires and don’t plan on camping as we have already booked cabins for the trip.
My question is: Will we have enough daylight to make each of the the 3 legs in 3 days? I’m not sure what the average mph is but if I estimate 20mph at 180 per leg, that puts us around 9hrs travel time with no stops.
My other question is: If we find ourselves running behind schedule, can we peel off the dirt route for a more direct paved road to our next campground?
I’m sure as the sun drops below the mountains it can get really dark down in the valleys.
Thanks for everyone’s help.
