Overcast day on an abandoned road...

View attachment 13803

About 1km in, the road really disappeared!

View attachment 13804

There was pavement there once I think.

View attachment 13805

Mazda van (I think).
The Hunter Cub making the only track in the mud.

View attachment 13806

The road was washed out, and I could go no further.

View attachment 13807

I tried to resolve where the road had been, unsuccessfully.

View attachment 13808

Another detour held potential.

View attachment 13809

I went looking for a river tunnel, but think I will need waders... next time.
I do like these abandoned road photos. Riding to the unknown, it's really an adventure.

That's awesome. Love the AE86. Where you delivering tofu?

Their replica tofu shop is much better than the one in Japan for sure!
I like it too, that the delivery Hunter Cub is with the delivery Hachiroku - neat!

tumblr_oe5smfGQYx1uve7yio1_1280.jpg

Here's a bonus Hachiroku shot, from the day I spent with some friends swapping cars around Fuji-san.

Sometimes, I forget how beautiful it is where I live...

Great stuff, and why I like to get out and about too.

... like, what's around the next corner! I've seen more tanuki, kyon, and shika on the Hunter Cub for some reason, and I would guess too because of both the quieter trails, and quieter machine approaching them.

Delivery Hunter Cub with the delivery Hachiroku, I like the saying. They're are vehicles for work, but they all have lots fun.
Mt. Fuji one is great, mountain and cars both are classic symbol of Japan. 👍

The yellow CT, the green grass, and the blue sky combine to a beautiful picture.:D
Agreed, love the wide open spaces...

20260416_100624.jpg

With a day off and nice weather, I took a ride down the coast.

20260416_101229.jpg

I wasn't expecting to find more tunnels.

The coast looks quite exotic (to me at least), and some of the fishing villages are nestled in tiny coves, some connected by tunnels.

Recently, some new houses and accommodation developments appear to have been completed.

Lucky, the Hunter Cub can sneak through to secret places.

Lunch was a katsu-don with a new Cub equipped delivery service, though I ate in...

Really enjoying your adventures @Kuro Neko
Having spent many years fishing and boating off the Oregon coast it's interesting to see how the boats there are pulled onto the shore as opposed to being moored on the water.
Also appears that like here, the small independent fisherman is a dying breed.

Glad!
Happy to give back here, which has been a great help to me on technical stuff.

I've always thought, like stackers for cars here, hauling fishing boats out of the water was done for dock space management purposes.
Other than storm protection of course.

In many places across Japan too, the fish is landed and taken across the dock to the hotels and restaurants on the other side for consumption - the very definition of fresh.
If there's a business that needs local fish, the boats stay operational... mostly anyway, for now.

In the absence of any forest trail pics, a friend sent me this commuter example, spotted during the week in Tokyo (with a matching Monkey).

Screenshot 2026-04-21 09.31.00.png

When I was Maxam-equipped, I used to see a regular on their postie riding through Shibuya, and realize now it was likely a genuine Aussie market machine (not this one).

Screenshot 2026-04-21 09.33.02.png

Perhaps someone in Japan is making Aussie Post stickers...

I've seen them on eBay, I think Lambda Motorcycles used to sell them as I recall seeing them when looking at postie bags & racks, and it's a simple enough design it wouldn't take much to make one on a Cricut or other vinyl cutter. Right side kickstand and lack of the hi/low sub-transmission are two things that come to mind to suggest a CT110 could have been an Aus Post bike.

Will check those possible sources out, thanks!
Noted too on the right-side kickstand... interesting.

Screenshot 2026-04-21 16.20.30.png

This one is listed as Australian, has the right-side kickstand, but has a high/low mission.
Just local market I would then assume, not an Aussie Post machine... notably too, as it has a headlight integrated speedmeter, whereas the postie bikes have the stepped off speedmeter to allow sight line with a front bag installed?

Took the Penghu ferry to Penghu. A two days riding hiking trip, although it was mostly riding.
The blue sky, the Tiffany blue sea water, the breeze, and the incredibly relaxing ride were all wonderful.
Some photos in Day 1.

There was a fireworks trial at 9 PM. The first time trying shoot a short video at 120fps with my phone, then slowing it down to 1/4 speed. Much better than built-in slow-motion mode. Also edited with a suitable music. Very satisfied with the short video. Recommend headphone on!🎧

Having the hi/low and a fully enclosed chain guard, it may have just been an AG (agricultural/farm bike) model sold in Aus.

Good eye on the remote speedometer.
It seems a smaller tail light and crash bars were other common equipment for the Aus Post fleet.

The crash bar on the Post fleet is interesting too.
Those pics of the example with the orange bags look like they were taken out the back of the Motegi Collection Hall, where Honda often runs some of their collection.

Love the ferry ride, and do they chock motorcycle wheels front and back like they do in Japan too?
I must try and take a ferry trip one day too...

20260418_151849.jpg

Here though, I am just confined to a local road that I've driven past 1000 times, and thought an explore on the Hunter Cub might be worth it.

20260418_151851.jpg

I was amazed to come across yet another handcut and unlined tunnel.

20260418_152140.jpg

With a side diversion also presenting an interesting outlook.

20260418_152231.jpg

One of the tunnels has been blocked, and there's a still in use pump room whirring away just outside.

20260418_152709.jpg

Around the valley, the other end of the first tunnel above.

20260418_153928.jpg

This tunnel was closed, and though I was tempted to explore it was also full of bats, and I did not want to disturb their colony.

20260418_160219.jpg

I took the back roads home.

20260418_160426.jpg

A local gorge is famous for its black bass fishing.

20260420_152125.jpg

Back road view out over our valley, with our minka down there somewhere...

The next morning, I rode for almost an hour from Magong City to the westernmost Sanxian pagoda, where I could overlook Wai'an harbor. Nearby are Xitai fake cannon and Xiyu lighthouse, but I arrived too early and the lighthouse wasn't open yet, so I gave up. Instead, I discovered a cliff where I could listen to the waves. At 8 AM, the temperature hadn't risen yet, and I stayed there for quite a while, feeling a sense of peace.

They did this way, center stand and ratchet tie down for scooter, center/side stand, chock and ratchet tie down for motorcycle.

Neat!
In Japan, at least on the ferries we've used, they secure motorcycles and bicycles the same as cars, with just the chock - which might be OK for a car, but always seemed silly for motorcycle and bicycle!

R3a-269.jpg

I mean, how are those yellow lumps of wood (with no straps), going to help a motorcycle or bicycle?
Perhaps, they assume the waves will have manners, and behave?

The sea indeed looks lovely... and I like the fake gun!

@Crazy Morgan thanks for posting your adventures!
Magong city is a long way from Cathlamet Washington and I enjoy the different perspective.
Spent some time reading about the area as I know very little about Taiwan and islands off its coast so was educational for me and fun to follow along with the ride.
Agreed too; I like all the different perspectives myself.

A recently re-opened rindo was calling...

20260422_134911.jpg

20260422_135004.jpg

20260422_135300.jpg

Again, I was surprised at the number of hand cut and unlined tunnels.

20260422_135710.jpg

Including for the local river and rice field irrigation.

20260422_140931.jpg

One tunnel's approach was very steep.

20260422_141136.jpg

It was also very skinny!

20260422_141838.jpg

On the way home, a more formal tunnel。

20260422_144928.jpg

This one too, is traversed by normal cars regularly, and features a double-deck outlook - because after many years' operation as foot traffic, they redug the run lower to allow motorized vehicles to use the route too.
This is how it remained.

I am a recovered moderate depression patient, but experience brief relapses sometimes. It last for several days, leaving me feeling powerless for life. Fortunately, I have a stronger awareness of my condition than before. Shed the smiling mask I must wear at work, ride my CT alone to the mountain, feed the cats, wander through old villages, climb that incredibly steep mountain, listen to myself breathe so deeply, then observe myself, refrain from judgment. Riding and nature always cures.
